I'm looking at my first ever Burda magazine and I'm being tortured by a memory. In the 1970s, my mother subscribed to a European magazine that had patterns, glossy and sometimes very exotic fashion spreads and -- IIRC -- offered the fabrics for purchase. The magazine copy was in several languages, including German and Italian. I remember the magazine as being oversized and perfect-bound, but I could be wrong. I don't think it was monthly. Alas, we didn't save any of them.

Does anyone recognize the magazine I'm talking about -- or was it all a hallucination? I'd love to have the name of it.

TIA!!

Burda International had a finished look with a spine, patterns included, and very Fashion-magazine format, but i don't remember if they sold fabric or not.

Thank you ... your saying "Burda International" helped me to google a little more effectively.

I'm pretty sure now it was Elegance International, which I see now might not have had patterns in it (maybe I assumed), but DID have the fabrics you saw in the magazine. If anyone remembers more about this magazine, I'd love to know whether it did have patterns.

Are you thinking of Cadena? But I don't think they sell patterns, just fabric IIRC. I think it still sells, at $75 an issue (I think they are 4 times a year).

See Here for an example

I think it was called Elegance. As well as the magazine you could purchase (at what was ENORMOUS expense for those days) a plush ring binder file containing all their fabrics. In a fit of newbie enthusiasm I sent off for it but then found Ithe fabrics were way above my budget
In the 1980's they had a shop in London full of their signature Chanel style tweed jackets, huge gold buttons and eye popping colourful separates.

It was Elegance International. See mimisasiyouwish blog. She has photographs of a 1971 Elegance magazine.

I once bought one. It was about $200 for the membership alone. Wonderful fabrics available but very expensive.

Thank you, all! Yes, I remember it was expensive -- my mom's little daydreaming indulgence, since I don't think she ever bought any of the fabrics. But she did knock off some of the dresses.

BTW, the one mimisasyouwish has? I remember it ... I must have looked at it a million times ...

Heck! I think I may still have one in my stash.
Now you have me looking!
I do remember both magazines.
