I thought I'd start this thread after another thread got side tracked with horse chat!

I have two of 'em. My old grey mare who will be 20 next month and a lovely bay gelding I bred from her. He will be 3 in Dec and I'm working up the mental courage to break him in.

What about you?

My wonderful horse will be 23 this January. He is an Anglo Arab with maybe some Saddlebred thrown in back a few generations. I would love to have a young horse to work with also but I board and the cost is pretty high for my budget.

Gosh, he looks in great nick for 23! Yeah, boarding costs can kerb the aquisition of horses. We finially have our own property after umpteen years of looking and scrimping. My poor mare was in foal and we didn't have anywhere. If we didn't find this property when we did, I was going to have to sell the foal.

He's stunning really.

You lucky stiff.

The only four legged beast I have is my dog, (not to mention DH when he gets grumpy), but I would so love to have a horse! Marec, your baby looks so beautiful! I remember once when I was at a stable, a Tennessee Walker and the rider was in dressage. Such beauty in motion!

I live in the country and see many Belgians. In fact, there were about six boarded down the road, and I'd take the dog down there on walks. One day, Jim, one of the Belgians, lowered his head over the fence to introduce himself to the dog; I just caught this out of the corner of my eye. He was so determined to look my dog in the face, and she wasn't scared. He'd always come up to the fence and move his head up and down, as if it were a greeting. Such a sweetie! The horses aren't there anymore; the landowner sold his land to the gas company and they are tearing it up with wells and pipelines.

I have a beautiful black arabian mare named Lady Ashen! She is a vain lady who is very gentle and sweet.

One of the years I worked with NYPD Mounted, a kind, weathy young woman who didn't know anything about horses but favored the unit, made a wonderful donation of a few dozen fine horses. But she didn't do her research -- they were all chestnut Tennessee Walkers. She meant well, but those poor boys, pounding the pavement, used to break down all the time. It was a real problem.

Besides that, the standard was always smallish bays, and those tall reds really looked out of place.

Hi Lady Ashen! She is so pretty-look at those 4 white socks. I'll bet she is flashy under saddle.

Yes, he is. We are dealing with some limited movement now but he still tries to do what is asked and more. I am giving him more time off but I think he misses the work, even though he really cannot do it anymore.

That is great about having your own property. You have been able to watch your young horse grow up! Nice.
