Someone over on the Bernina yahoo group posted an idea for a seam guide that I though was pure genius.
She uses one of those heavy rubber bracelets that are everywhere now and places that over the free arm of her machine to make a seam guide. Totally movable to mark any size seam. She did this on her 830 but it should work for about any free arm I would think.
What a great idea!

I haven't tried the rubber bracelet.... but dang, I would think they wouldn't stretch enough.

I put a wide, big rubber band around the free arm of my granddaughter's New Lotus for her - she was having problems seeing how keeping the fabric straight before it gets to the needle would help her.

And for the record.. I didn't think of using the rubber band... it was the gal at the Elna shop who teaches kids that gave me the idea.

It does help tremendously! I bet those rubber bracelets give a better edge to bump up against than the rubber band does.

I saw a picture of that, or one similar. I think it was one of those bracelets they hand out at Bernina functions.

Found it! Thread's Magazine, Nobember 2012/issue 163/Best Tip/page 12.

I use a loop of non-roll waistband elastic. It's thick enough to allow the fabric to "butt up" against it and I can stitch it tight enough so it won't easily slip. A bit of leftover put to good use!

Blue painters tape...if I need an edge guide, the little plastic box that the needles come in, taped down with blue painters tape.

You need to be a Threads Insider to read about this tip on Threads Magazine website. I'll wait for the November issue to come out and review the tip then - I find what's in the issues appears in the Insider and it's not worth paying twice for.

I decided to review more of the Threads Magazine website and OMG! in the Insider Column if you click the link to the Oct/Nov 163 issue, the tip is in the preview pages of the issue - with a pix. So, if anyone is interested, we don't have to wait to read it online or when the issue comes out.

Found this when I did a search for seam guides.

Looks like Threads forgot to research there own archives before accepting the newest version of the old tip!
