I am wanting to machine quilt in the hoop and I am looking for a grid that fits the ellisimo big hoop. Please let me know where you found it. I don't want stippling just a grid.

Thanks,
Rebecca

I am not sure grids for in-the-hoop quilt patterns come that large.

Don't you have to select an in-the-hoop pattern first?

D'oh! I was reading this as in-the-hoop piecing of the quilt block.

I have found quilting (stitching the layers together and not piecing section for the top) with the embroidery machine results in a much better job that when I use the sewing machine.

Some of the quilting stitch designs do not always suit the theme of the quilt, so I create my own.

Wishing you many fun and successful projects.

Patti,
I am very interested in finding out more about quilting in the hoop, as in getting the three layers together, and found your post here. I would love to know more about what you have found that works, what doesn't, etc. Thanks! Beth

First you need to add extra fabric around the block in addition to the 1/4" seam allowance. Because the embroidery pulls up the fabric. I would allow at least 1" in addition to the 1/4" seam allowance.

What I do is hoop the stabilizer.
Spray adhesive on the stabilizer. Put down the batting. Spray adhesive on the batting and then put the fabric down. You may or may not want to hoop baste around the design.

I would do a test sample first.

Each block would be quilted this way.

Then each block would be assembled using this method:

Note: this will only quilt the front of the square.

If you want to quilt both sides you will
need to choose a quilting running stitch motif. Then you would hoop the backing wrong side up with the stabilizer on top and then do the rest.

I hope this helps.

Rebe, I am not sure what you mean by quilting running stitch motif. If you want to quilt the 3 layers together did you mean you put the stabilizer on top of the 3 layers? What kind of stabilizer would you use? Thanks! Beth
