I know this sounds dumb but for me, nothing beats a great straight skirt.

I find them easy to fit, they make me feel feminine, thinner, and dressed up, and they work with lots of things in my closet.

They're also easy to sew even if you choose to go all out with a lining. They don't take a ton of yardage so you can splurge on nicer fabric if you want.

What's yours?

I'll second Michelle's vote for the knit dress ~ any knit dress. COuldn't have gotten thru this summer's heat without 'em. Planning to meet fall with more of same, only with sleeves this time around.

Butterick 5577 - I've had it so long it's now classified as a vintage pattern... The "2 hours" they claim must include the time involved in going to the store and buying the fabric, it's that easy! I've made the pants a couple of times, ditto the shorts, and most recently made the skirt with just an elastic waist (not even taking the time to put in a drawstring) and out of a ponte-type heavier knit. I took the skirt on a recent trip and wore it every night with a different top and no one noticed it was the same skirt as the night before! And then I heard on some TV show some woman talking about how "tube skirts" were back in. I'm so au courant LOLOL.

Oh my gosh Michelle - I was just looking at your reviews and saw some of the cute things you made recently. Your navy Simplicity 4076 inspired me to try searching for it again and I scored!! Someone had it for sale on Etsy and I just ordered it.

The things you've been sewing for yourself just keep getting cuter and cuter.

I have a black knit skirt like that I bought from Hannah Andersson a few years ago. I lost too much weight to wear it any longer and you're right - they are versatile.

I should try to alter mine.

Style Arc's Creative Cate...a cowl neck top with cut on sleeves. Super easy and looks like a million bucks.

I like making aprons, I find it relaxing.
I am trying a wrap around skirt for myself that is fun & if I like it I will probably make it again & maybe again too... I love those skirts! Kwik Sew 3138 is the pattern number.

An easy skirt -- almost straight, maybe with a slight A-line. You can make them up in different lengths and fabrics, and they go with virtually anything and can be dressed up or down. My main TNT is this one, Burda 8344, view D. Which reminds me, I need to make a new one.
