is it good for decorative stitching and/or general sewing?

Yup, King Tut cotton quilting thread is currently on sale at Jo-ann online. I don't think I really need it, but, gosh darn it, I just can't resist a deal sometimes. There is also an e-coupon for free shipping on $25 orders good through tomorrow (I think).

I am not sure I should bother, but am thinking of getting a couple of neutral colors for sewing linen and/or cotton pants, and, who knows, maybe even for quilting (which I plan to try one day). Has anyone used this thread for sewing clothes, and, if so, any troubles with finished garments? I assume it can take higher heat than poly, but is not as strong.

Also, does anyone know whether King Tut -- especially the variegated colors -- might be good for dabbling in decorative stitching? I don't have an embroidery machine, but am envisioning perking up some plain cotton twill or linen with an improvised all-over design. Is that crazy, and, if not, might King Tut be a good bet?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

No, it is "an extremely low lint #40/3 extra-long staple Egyptian-grown cotton"

They say it's "Ideal for quilting and decorative stitching" but they don't include it in their recommended embroidery threads.

King Tut is a TOL thread from Superior Threads and is a quilter's dream. Perhaps a bit heavy for garment sewing, as I have never tried it in a bobbin! I use it on top and Masterpiece in the bobbin, and can't think of why you couldn't use it for sewing anything you want - one thing about this thread - the colors do not bleed together and it makes an absolutely beautiful stitch...I love it.

I can't find it in the flyer - how much is it on sale for? Sewthankful.com's everyday price for King Tut 500 yd spool is $6.49 (NAYY).

I don't quilt with it very often, usually I am either looking for quilting to blend and using a finer thread or really looking for it to pop and using a bright 40 wt trilobal poly.

As far as decorative stitches all I can say is try it. It's a lovely thread to work with but some of my decorative stitches are happier with a finer thread. YMMV I like that the Superior variegateds change color more frequently than in some other brands.

That's a test run on some medium heavy cotton with cotton batting that I did last year...the colorful variegated is King Tut color 929 - Chariot of Fire, and the blues variegated is C&C large spool quilting cotton.

Tess, it is currently $5.39 for the 500 yard spool at Jo-Ann's. I don't look at their flyers, so I think I found it just by searching for "Superior" or something like that.

Thanks for the info, as well! Yet another new acronym for me today, too.

Do you mean TOL? I am sorry! I should have spelled that out...do you know FMQ? Free Motion Quilting. I don't know too many of the usual forum/web acronyms, but those I do tend to use.GREAT price on the thread - only online I think - we sure don't have any Superior thread in the store here.
