I have about $5,000.00. I will be make ballet costume like the one in these pictures. I'm think a borther machine, maybe the new V series DreamWeaver XE?

Do you already have other machines? I used to sew for a dance studio and I had 2 sergers and 2 sewing machines. If you don't have other machines I would use the 5K to buy several machines including a straight stich only semi professional, a serger and a machine that could handle ruffling and stretch fabrics.

I agree that if you don't already have a serger, you should use your budget to get a machine and a serger. You'd still have plenty of money leftover after getting a serger to get a nice sewing machine. Do you need embroidery? I'm not that familiar with the Brother machines - are they embroidery optional?
