Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has used a generic binder attachment for their Bernina machine. I have an old 830 and 1080. I would primarily be using it for clothing and perhaps some binding of quilts.

Are they useful. I just dislike putting on bias binding as a finished because I turn it over to the wrong side and I see the uneven binding and stitch.

Anyone use it? Do you like the finish? Thanks so much!

I have one... it's tricky. Not as nice or easy (so I am told) as the very expensive Bernina one, but I just can't bring myself to pay $250 for a binder. Maybe someday I will...

I have this one. The plastic tends to open a bit which allows the bias fabric to move. I've had better luck with it on thin materials, but doesn't work as well for quilt binding. For $10, it's occasionally useful.

There are some reviews on Amazon.

This blog posting may be useful

The Sewing Divas: Double fold knit binding

She mentions

Quote:
If a binding foot is not available for your machine you can have one made by your local mechanic or make your own! This involves buying an extra zigzag or open-toe foot and having the right toe cut off and then buffed smooth.

The single toe foot is #94; Bernina hints that it's obsolete.

Oh! My post is irrelevant - sorry!!! I have a 630, not the models you mentioned. Apologies!

Nice to see that your linked item isn't very costly... and it looks like the sturdier ones they make for the computerized models. I'd go for it!

Let us know how it goes! I've been thinking of getting a binder of some kind for my bernina as well.

I just wanted to say I've used the real Bernina binder #88, and its fantastic. The girls on the Bernina yahoo group have been talking about ordering the same binder that Bernina uses directly from the manufacturer for less. You can search the messages there under binder to find those messages, if you belong to the group.
I have not looked at eBay, but the ones these ladies were talking up are the ones Bernina buys from this mfg to sell to their customers. I think it's a place overseas. Still less money. There is only a slight difference between the ones Bernina has them make specifically for them, and the ones they make for industrial machines.

Southern Stitch, I hope you'll let us know if the binder turns out to be just as good. Meanwhile, I'll go look for the yahoo site...
