Margaret Thatcher's Suits Seven of them were auctioned off

On the mannequins they look much nicer. They looked frumpy on her. I didn't realize she was such a tiny person. Am I being harsh? What's the difference? I love those suits, and I agree, they didn't look as flattering on her. I think she has a proportionately large head and of course, wore her hair in a style that enlarged it even more, so maybe that's why you thought she was larger. (I did, too.)

The ones on the mannequins may be adjusted taller from the floor from when she wore them. The mannequins may have a longer torso. Also they would be very pressed and cleaned in a way that your suit might only be for 10 min., until you got in and out of a car or moved around for a bit. Also, ones on mannequins, might be on mannequins, not even very much shaped like her. If the suits on the mannequins were a bit larger than the mannequin anyplace, (like at the waist maybe?) they could just be drawn up and held by some clothes pins or binder clips in back. I actually saw that today on some mannequins even in a department store! It was a different kind of clip though. I had to walk around it twice, to convince myself they really would have that done there, were everyone could see it like that in the store. Also an old photo shoot trick I think since about forever. The Navy Blue suit with the poka dot trim, is I think, not even the same suit, that she is wearing in the photo, unless it's she had two matching ones with or without cuffs or got removable cuffs that they put back on for the mannequin. As photo when she is wearing it, has no cuffs. Also photo has matching polka dot bow tie, which is very matchy, matchy and pretty busy with that on the lapel also, and now in this time period, it probably looks a bit more frumpy and dated that way. I think the navy blue suit with the polka dot binding trim, looks visually different on the mannequin too, just because of a longer, more open neck area, with no blouse or tie under it there too. Also even though the mannequins have no head, looks like they may have a "longer neck" than Margaret Thatcher. Or does it just look like a long neck, if there is no head over it? That might change visual perception of them too?

I was not a Thatcher fan, either, but I do find it fascinating to look at what a trail-blazing woman would wear to be taken seriously. A woman with that much power had to make it up as she went along. I do like the jackets.
