Mystery object

I inherited this little vintage pouch, that is clearly a special use object from my friend who is clearing out her parents' apartment. my friend's mom came to the states from Austria just before WWII. She had lived an upper middle class life and treaures these objects from the finer life...anyway, do any of you have any idea what this object is????

Thanks for your collective wisdom.

It's for handkerchiefs or nylons.

it's much too small for either use, the pockets are 3 inches x 1.5 inches.

Pretty little thing!

I doubt it would have been for jewelry, because the little pouches remain essentially open even when the ribbon that links them is tied.

6 teeny pouches--that means it's not a day-of-the-week kind of storage, but definitely something to hold six identical things that you'd want to keep together.

Very mysterious.

Can you tell if this was homemade or does it have a Manufacturer's label somewhere?

Actually, you can't tell if it was home made or manufactured. it could have been made by a careful home sewer on a machine, or it might have been manufactured. no labels

My mom had one of these, maybe from the 50s or 60s. It was for carrying costume jewelery when she traveled.

She sold Sarah Coventry jewelery, so maybe that's where hers came from.

I have no proof, Sewand write, but I think you are correct. Some other sewing friends suggested that it was part of a set of similar object..one of which may have been in a larger size to hold stockings.
