Juki vs. Singer serger Compare Juki and Singer serger

I will not be doing a lot of serging, but want to be able to work with my knit fabric from the double bed knitting machine

If you are just going to knit the pieces of it, in the right garment shapes, and then use them in a overlocker afterwards, to flatlock stitch those preshaped peices, with pre- finished edges together afterwards, with using no knives on it that way, then I think the only consideration might be which machine was easiest for you to set up for 3 thread flat lock. I think the only way to find out, cause that is a pretty personal thing (threading for one kind of stitch) is just to try it most likely on each individual machine most lwith a sample. And if you want to do that with same kind of yarn as your knitting in a looper, and not just serger thread, you had better try that too, just in case the actual looper eye's between some machines and others might not always be the same size even. If wanting to put yarn in there, bigger eye might be better than smaller looper eye If you mean instead actually just cutting through a block of pre-made up knit, and stitching on it, actually having that hold together later,and not fall apart later, I don't know, but I would think it would depend on what kind of stitch you even used maybe. I think a machine with a chain and at least a 3 thread overlock next to it, (like a 5 thread safety stitch, might be better for that one thing, than just a 3 or 4 thread overlock, at all though. Also whatever machine would be most easy to clean and get all the yarn fuzz out of, just because I think it would probably be pretty messy and fuzzy going.

If so, I would want a serger with a somewhat wide stich. Often that's a 4 thread, and some sergers have a wide 3 thread. Sometimes a regular width 3 thread isn't enough to 'catch' all the edges in thick fabrics. Not all sergers are good with thicker fabrics, so you might have to test. If you sew the pieces together first with a sewing machine and then trim and finish the edges with the serger, the wider stitch isn't as important. I've never used a Simplicity serger. Currently I own a Pfaff and Elna. At work we have 2 home Jukis (654de) and they are very strong and durable. ------ My grandmother taught me to sew when I was 10, and I've been sewing ever since.

I really like the Singer because I don't have to take everything apart, especially the needle plate, just to change to a rolled hem, like I have to do with the White. But the White is pretty old. I have a friend who has the Juki.
