Match Pattern to Fabric (And visa versa)

I have some fabrics on my shelf that I really like, but just can't seem to find a suitable pattern. Anyone else have this problem? Perhaps we can help each other! Here's my first entry: Fabric / Pattern I've had the two fabrics on the right for months now, they're pre-washed, and ready to go, but no pattern seems to quite match. Any thoughts? The blue floral is a light poly with a crepe texture. It's a little see through, so would either need a lining, or perhaps it should just be the lining of something else. The purple is a bit sweet for the ruffles on the pattern under it. That pattern might look better with the blue or even the B&W (I would choose the sleeveless dress in the B&W) I'd use the purple for the Butterick. That leaves the blue for the middle pattern. If not limited by those 3 patterns... I think I would rather use the blue for a blouse (but that's how I usually think, lol) and either underline just the bodice (with a white poly or cotton or blend), or plan to wear it w/ a cami. Maybe something like S3786 (see the one on the model and imagine it w/ a cami) or S2365 (although the model seems to be wearing your B&W print!). The purple would make a nice Colette Dress (Peony, Oolong, or Truffle would be my choices) - retro w/out being dowdy. Something like this in a knee-length for the B&W. Of course, you'd need to finish the sleeves, hem, neckline, but some bias tape or a rolled hem would take care of that. Vogue also has some that would be good for these fabrics: V8815, V8434, and V8822 all look good for sheer floaty fabrics. -- Edited on 9/7/12 1:13 PM --

So sad for them to sit on the shelf. From the pattern options I think all 3 fabric would work with the Butterick halter dress and the Cynthia Rowley one in the middle. The Cynthia Rowley with the tiers I would use the blue. You want the layers to be distinguished from each other. So the busier prints will make it look like one solid piece. Unless you do a soft contrast trim or serged rolled hem to create some differentiation. Then I'd say you can use all 3 fabrics for all 3 patterns. I'm sure you have other patterns in your stash that would work also. The possibilities are endless.

Donna H: The choices are certainly not limited to the patterns in the photos, it's just a picture I already had of the fabrics. So many great suggestions! I actually already have S2365, and it's actually very like a lot of RTW shirts I have, so I know I like the shape, why haven't I made it up?? V8815 I don't have, but I have the August Burda which has almost the exact same top - and I've already traced the pieces for a dress using the most of the same pattern. Those two wrap styles look really nice too - I'd never noticed them before. Isn't it amazing how when you're just looking for what catches your eye, it's totally different from when you're looking for something to actually make - does anyone else find them quite difference experiences? Nhi, I was all set to make up the tiered cynthia rowley this past weekend, and found I didn't have the right size, so I switched to my Jeans UFO. But you're right, the blue is certainly a candidate.
