I've been looking to upgrade to a somewhat newer machine.
I've been looking at this machine 5.0/5.5. the person that has it has it for a reasonable price. I think it would be a good machine. What do you think?

If you're purchasing the pfaff second hand from someone, i do discourage it in terms of warranty and classes for such advance machine. If it is from a reputable dealer then go for it. I know the creative vision had issues in the past but i am 100% sure it has all been resolved. Think of all those gorgeous maxi stitches. the large embroidery.

If it's a creative vision 5.0 upgraded to a 5.5 I would say be aware!!!!! Many of these machines had serious thread breakage problems. I know because I had one.
If it is an original 5.5 (not the 5,0 upgraded to the 5.5) then it could be a good machine but I think you should test it well before buying.

I have a 5.5 and have had no problems with it. I use it nearly every day for sewing, applique and embroidery. Since the CS came out last year, the CV's have been discontinued so you should be able to get one for a good price.

There's a used CV 5.0 (I think, might be a 5.5) at a nearby dealer for $3K. It been available for close to 2yrs. I wonder why it hasn't sold?

Many people know about the problems the creative 5.0 had in the past but I do now have a 5.5 and it's a fantastic machine.

As others have pointed out, there were issues with this machine. I had one and it had problems from day 1 so I'd be very wary of buying a used one unless you know the owner well and know that it hasn't had problems. As someone else pointed out, you also won't have the warranty protection and some dealers won't support it because you didn't buy from them. I think you're better off purchasing from a reputable dealer who stands behind their products and provides classes, great service etc. The newest Pfaff Creative Sensation is awesome as are a lot of the Baby Lock and Brother machines. I mention those brands because of personal experience with them. I'm sure Bernina and others have great ones also. Research the machine & especially the dealer. Can't stress enough how important the dealer is.

Thank-you all for your input. I just talked to the owner of this machine. She said she has had no problems with it. She told me she works at a pfaff dealership. She teaches on how to use the sewing machines. She also talked about the problems that some of the machines had. There was a bad batch out there and some of the people got them. The problem was quickly resolved. So I think I'm going to get a good machine for a reasonable price. I did check around priced veried. I think this will be a good machine.
thanks again for your input.

The problems these "older" Pfaff Creative 5.0's had were not resolved on all machines. Many had the upgrades done on them and still had thread breakage problems and "motor overload" problems. Not talking about the difficulty in free motion too
I think the best thing to do if you are interested in this machine is to test it thoroughly before buying.
I would suggest that you do an embroidering of a very large design that takes more than 2 hours to do (my machine used to break threads when it got hot), Try a couple of the small letters of the alphabets too as this shows if the tension is good.
It would be a good idea of you to take different types of fabrics to see how they sew. (Very thin, thick and elastic types)
It's important that the machine doesn't chew thin fabrics at the start of sewing and that the machine can sew a Jeans hem well without getting the motor overload screen coming on.
I do hope it is a good machine at a good price.

Thank-you for your input. But let me say She said there was a bad batch of machines out there. A few of the people got them. Most of them couldn't be repaired they got new ones If those we're bad they still got a new one. She did embroidery all the time even at the pfaff dealership. this machine was a demo at the shop So it was one of the good ones. This machine did continuous embroidery and never got hot. But to let you know most embroidery needle do get hot when embroidering. I've experianced that with my 2140/2170 pfaff machine. thank-you again.
I looked at the reviews here and counted how many no's or maybe and yes.
Yes-13 No-1 maybe-2
Like i said some of the machine were bad from the start.
thanks for the input. The machine is on it way.
