Is it at all possible to use silky polyester material to make a top that is meant for two way stretch knit fabric?

I'm fairly sure I know that the answer is a clear "no" BUT just in case...

I have some beautiful material that is quite silky. A very nice yellow/ gold background with little black polka dots.

The pattern I like a lot is meant for 2 way stretch knit material.

How can I alter this?
I have made the knit top before so I know what size works for the knit.

Any ideas/ experience?

Nope, unfortunately. You can go the other direction--use a knit fabric with a pattern designed for a woven.

The reason is that a pattern designed for a knit depends on the stretchy nature of the knit to provide wiggle room and accommodate the curves of the body.

To get shaping with a woven fabric, which has no significant stretch, you need design 'ease' as well as darts and differently shaped cutting lines. You can probably verify this for yourself by measuring your pattern at critical points. For example, a fitted woven top or blouse usually needs a minimum of two inches of ease (extra fabric) at the bustline, and four inches is not unusual.

Unless you are experienced at pattern drafting, I don't believe you will be successful in trying to alter your pattern.

My advice, so that you don't waste your pretty yellow fabric, would be to look for a pattern designed for wovens that looks similar to your knit top.
