Heh heh....

He walked in to my house just in time to catch me when I was headed down the stairs with a HUGE laundry basket full of quilting cottons (like 3 laundry loads worth!) ...

And I told him that true Hoarders probably don't wash their recent acquisitions. He argued "Oh yes, they do!!!!"

Heck. He watches the show... I don't. So I still think I'm innocent.

Anyway...

So I did a 60 mile round trip today to run to chase down some fabric I found on Craigslist last night.

I called the gal first to make sure it was *probably* gonna be worth the trip. :)

Here's today's garage sale report from just this one stop:

About 40 Barbie patterns (one looks like Princess Diana wedding dress commemorative) the price on that envelope was $15.95! (I'm sure it's old.. so I'm surprised at that!)

About 25 American Girl patterns

About 60-80 Quilting magazines... haven't been through 'em, but at first glance, I saw one cool one was from 1979. :)

And... :::::: drum roll:::::::

A 66 gallon rubbermaid tub full of quilting cotton

Another equally big tub of fabric suitable for Barbie (for my granddaughter.. she's gonna have a ball going through all of that!)

4 Doll stands

and a $30 Encyclopedia of Needlework Book

........

......

....

...
..
.

Grand total: $47

The stuff today doesn't truly stink... but it smells enough that it's in the wash now. I've got a date with my Elna Press tonight and some quilting show and a very large pile of cotton!

About two weeks ago, I scored about $2,000 worth of really nice quilting cottons... all fat quarters and larger... for $60.

So for about $100... I've got stuff to make scrappy quilts and selvedge edge treasures up the wazzzooooo.

I am impressed with your purchases! I think I seriously need to be on the lookout for craigslist and garage sale fabrics.

Uh. Yes. Guilty. :)

Seriously... these two binges are Stash Acquisition at the Speed of Light!

And it's especially yummy to have all of this since I got good and hooked into this whole Selvedge Edge Addiction. I'm gonna have some serious yardage to work with.

Oh... and I told my son that this would be a totally appropriate amount of "pilage" to have *if* I had a designated sewing room. At this point, I've got some pretty interesting piles around my dining room table where my Horizon and ElnaPress are parked.

This pile is about knee high (the table it is up against is a pub/counter height table).

That pile is not quite half of what I got in the first $60 round.

Look at those luscious selvedges peeking out and getting ready to be cut!

This Craigslisting thing is the way to fly to amass some serious stash for quilting.

I think you can only be considered a hoarder if it never turns into quilts. (As I say this, I'm getting guilty pictures in my mind of fabrics that have been waiting for years for me to turn them into anything. )

Oh.. and Warbler.... (love that name, by the way - I have real ones hanging out around my feeders here this year).....

It's not so much about the savings as it is about the "hunt". :)

My son and I have done some serious Craigslisting for the past few years. The "finds" are what make it all worthwhile.

I don't remember where I wrote about it here on PR... but I bought a new ElnaPress still sealed in the box for $50 (discontinued model that sold for about $500 just a year or so ago). Wooo Hoooo.

There's a Babylock Enlighten that I'm courting at the moment... if the chick goes down to $1,000 - I'm on it. :)

EDIT: Oh.. and PS.. Like my son has a right to razz me... he had about 6-7 Jet Skis in his garage last year... just to assemble them down into 3 that are functional. He teases that they paid more for fuel than for the Jet Skis. lol

It's all the same... just different toys. :)

That's not hoarding, that's just really frugal and smart shopping.

You did good, Girl!

Update:

So the kid sends me a text a few minutes ago with a link that has something to do with custom painted crank baits (fishing lures!) ... and he adds: "If you're gonna hoard, at least hoard something cool!"

lol

Seems he's not gonna let up on this one... looks like we'll probably be going rounds about hoarding all week. (all in fun)

Yes, I was just thinking that, although where I would put it is a serious problem. It seems that I sew and sew and never catch up. I know that the books multiply when I am not looking, and I have the awful feeling that the fabric does too.
