Have read about Sure Fit Designs and wonder if anyone has any input about it. Does it have so many pages of instructions that one gets discouraged with the reading and it winds up with all of the patterns that didn't work?

One a scale of 1 to 5 what is the difficulty of using this system.

Are the results worth the money it costs?

Thank you

I have the system and for me it worked beautifully. I have a 47degree scoliosis (curvature of the spine) and have never gotten a pair of pants to fit. With her directions I now have a perfect pair of pants so after making and tweaking the muslin I made a pair out of dupioni silk. love them!! I learned not only more about patterns but about my own body shape. Due to the curvature I also have a shoulder that is lower. I have made the muslin for the bodice (FBA) and the dress but haven't gone any further yet but intend to. Glenda will respond to your questions right away and welcomes photos of your muslins. I for one really recommend it.

I also am a SFD lover. As I have posted many times, I now have a pants pattern that finally fits!! Also, the shirt and dress patterns are great! Once you get your sloper (Glenda helps you along) you can use it to easily adjust commercial patterns.

I found it easy to get the patterns to fit because I emailed pictures back and forth to Glenda and she told me exactly what to change to get that perfect fit.

I have been considering buying the Works combo (everything for about $250 USD). I hope others will post about their experiences with SureFit Designs.

I know $250 sounds like a lot of money, but I've spent much more money than that on patterns that I have not used because they require extensive alterations to get them to fit. My process so far has been to try a few alterations, then sew up a wearable muslin. My progress has been agonizing slow, and the results have not been all that good, and I slack off on garment sewing because I'm so frustrated. (Back when I was young and slim, I could sew a garment right out of the envelope and get a decent fit. That is no longer the case, but since I never had to do so many pattern alterations, I don't have a lot of experience with them. The alterations I require now are a new sewing skill for me to learn.)

Yes, even at sale prices ($.99, $1.99, $3.99), I've amassed a huge pattern library that I can't use without investing a lot of my time, and I know I've spent more than $250 on the patterns in my library.

I've watched all the SureFit videos, and one of the advantages that I see is that I can use the SureFit body blueprint to alter the patterns in my library so they WILL fit. The patterns I already own will not be wasted if I can use them to blend a SureFit body blueprint with the style features I like from patterns in my library.

My question is what happens after you get that great fitting sloper?

Will you really use it to create other styles? I can't see myself doing that. What about branching to knits?

Has anyone reviewed garments of what they've made based on the Sure Fit system?

For those of you who used it, was it hard to get accurate measurements?

There are 25 reviews for SureFit Designs here on PR.

This Threads Magazine article "Merits of a Basic Fitting Pattern" shows how to use a basic fitting pattern to alter commercial patterns. On this web page, you'll find several videos where Glenda shows how to use your body blueprint to alter commercial patterns - a very similar process.

I CAN see myself doing this: "blending" a commercial pattern with a sloper/bodyblueprint/true-fitting basic pattern to get what I want. Blending with a commercial pattern means that I don't have to "create" another style, but I should get one that actually fits me (which would be a HUGE improvement over what I'm doing now). I already have the commercial patterns in my library, but I'm not using them effectively now.

As for measurements, the SureFit videos and books show you exactly what measurements you'll need. For some of those measurements, you'll need a sewing buddy or Handy Assistant, but this is true for any alteration process/system. There are just some measurements that are difficult to do to yourself and get an accurate result. Some of the videos on the SureFit web site cover measurements.

I've also read an extensive discussion about SureFit Designs on a different forum, and I found that discussion to be very informative.

CMC - many thanks for your links and information. That Threads article on slopers is somewhere on a shelf - but never read.

I have never understood how to use a sloper - thank you so much.

I have SFD and like it. It is easy to get the measurements. The videos are so helpful. If you are hesitant to spend a large amount, start with one of the kits (that includeds the vellum and stylus.) I started with the pants kit. One kit is relatively inexpensive compared to some of the softwares. And if you keep buying different commercial patterns, you will not achieve a good fitting garment, bec. most of us have bodies that in no way resemble that perfect size 10 used to draft a pattern! Go for it!
