Interesting division between patterns and stash

And, unless I can see every pattern I own, I'll inevitably buy the same thing twice or long for patterns that I pretty much already have. So, I decided to put up this collection of thumbnails above my machine '/> This is interesting See all those patterns left of the yellow dotted line? They're all for wovens, vs, the other side of the line which are all for knits. Yet, see all the swatches hanging above the thumbnails? Knits. 95% of my stash is knits yet I have far more patterns for wovens. This has been very enlightening. I think I like the structure of wovens, but the feel and prints found in knits. My two favorite pieces I've made are woven but my knit pieces are so practical I wear them out. I think this might really inform my fabric purchases going forward. We'll see. Leu, sewing in NYC

Probably would help a lot, to actually pick things that go with other things in next purchases too! I find that kind of thing can even go along with my own closet full of store bought clothes (or even make up) sometimes if I don't have them organized very good or out where I can actually see them and work with them. In that case I may find myself continuing to buy some kind of store bought clothes, (or make up) just because I really like them, and they are beautiful in themselves, on an individual basis, but really no place to wear them, and nothing to go with them! As maybe does not go with real life events and even lifestyle. Having everything more out on visual display, does I think tend to keep you more on tract, as to what goes with what, and what you are actually wearing most of the time!

I would almost be too afraid to cut a chunk out of my fabric, but the fabric swatch is what makes it work. I have way too many patterns and too much fabric to do this with my entire stash, but I think I may do this to work with one *season* of ideas - patterns - fabrics. I, too, find myself longing for patterns that are very nearly like ones I've already got but have forgotten. Now when I start feeling the urge to shop, I've started telling myself to go sew whatever it is I'm working on or at least look through my patterns and fabrics and put together some new projects to start. ------ Liz
