I moved to Europe and had to sell my 30 year old Pfaff 1025. Loved that machine but she was wearing out and the electricity is different. The local shop here has the Bernina 215 and the pfaff 3.0. On first try I liked the feel of the Bernina better, which was surprising to me because I have been a pfaff person for years. I sew most of my own clothes, like to quilt once in a while and do repairs. Any recommendations? I am looking for a good buttonhole, as I was not in in love with my old one on the pfaff?

I'd buy the one you like. Thoroughly test both and see which fits you best.

The 215 doesn't do automatic buttonholes. A slide foot (3B) might help.

I dont know the Pfaff 3.0
but I think the Bernina 215 may be too basic for garment sewing. I dont know what your budget is but if its under 800.00
Try a bunch of machines and try them out on fabrics you like to sew with.

I have the Pfaff Select 3.0 , which also very basic. I'm a big fan of IDT, but I know that if I had to choose between the 215 and the 3.0, I'd go with the Bernina.

Both machines are very basic, weigh about the same, and have only one buttonhole style. I think the lighting is better on the Bernina, the pop off stitch plate makes it convenient to keep the bobbin area clean.

The way the power cord branches out from the foot pedal on the Pfaff annoys me, as does the presser foot lifter inside the harp. Here, the Select 3.0 is $500-600, which seems a bit too much, IMO. It's a nice, sturdy, basic machine, but based on owning it and my Bernina 240, I'd rather have the 215.

Of course, as SewBusy said, the best thing is to test them yourself and go with your preference.

Does your dealer have any good used machines in your price range or just above it? Have you looked at the Benina 300 series? I am not sure of the prices, but the 330 should be close to the price of the 215.

I am a Bernina girl and I love my 630. I also have a Pfaff with IDT and prefer my Bernina hands down. I've had the Bernina for 6 months and the Pfaff for 6 years.

I really enjoy quilting. I love to play with fabrics, colors and pictures. I recently discovered how much fun applique can be. As I love making pictures, landscape quilting can be challenging, but seeing the picture come to life is so rewarding.

I went to my dealer to get a 215 and walked out with a floor model 350 and LOVE it. However, you may want the IDT on the Pfaff.

Thank you for your opinions, I am planning to continue shopping around. The small city we are living in only has 2 dealers and the shop I liked only has the one bernina and the pfaff 3 and 4. I a thinking I may need to travel to a larger center.
