Featherweight 221J Black 221J

The only other "J" models I can find are tan. I understand these are Canadian machines. Were many made in black? Any information would be appreciated. ------ Lalaland

All the serial number data for Canadian made machines were destroyed when the St Jean factory was decommissioned. Some of the 221J machines were actually made in Kilbowie, with final assembly completed in Canada. I've never heard of any of these being made in Black. Jennifer in Calgary

I purchased it from her daughter. The motor was made in Canada. The serial # is EH379520, which dates it 1951-1953, according to the chart in the Nancy Johnson-Srebro book. Lots of Kilbowie machines were fitted with Canadian-made motors for the North American market. 221Js came along much later, after FW production in the USA ceased. Jennifer in Calgary

Still makes no sense that the machine is marked, 221J and not as a 221K. How do I contact Nancy Johnson-Srebro ? Is there anyone else that is a Featherweight scholar? ------ Lalaland

Let's try this again...black 221Js are not rare, but they're not common, either. I've come across maybe a dozen over the last 3 years, own one.
