I'd love to make this coat, but haven't seen any fabric like it locally.

Your link shows a vogue pattern and red and white fabric.

Just adding a note on fake shearling: I went to a vegan book signing in Manhattan and one of the guests wore a faux shearling coat and the fabric was a FANTASTIC dupe. I couldn't take my eyes off it because it was so hard to believe it was fake.

Totally marvelous on both sides: long and shaggy on one side and mock hide on the other.

Also, I must say, from the point of view of a non-vegan:

vegan clothing materials are GREAT. Whatever they use to make faux leather shoes -- to me, it looks BETTER than leather.

And, now that I think about it, vegan food dupes are pretty great, too. I went to a tasting: the ice cream was fabulous, the cheese was a total surprise, and, though I approached the marshmallows totally skeptical: they were perfect!

Type in a search for "faux shearing fabric by the yard" and a bunch of things will come up in Google or Bing or whatever your search engine of choice is.

I got some at Sew-Fisticated in eastern Massachusetts to use, furry side out, to make accessories for characters who were sheep (sort of). It was heavy stuff, two layers. I washed it (I wash almost everything) and it was fine except for a tendency for the two layers to peel apart just a bit at the edges (before sewing). At S-F it was $6.99 a yard (NAYY).

I saw some at Hobby Lobby. I was tempted to get some this year to make a vest. The price was right considering my sewing skills and not ever sewn with this type of fabric. Your jacket pattern is beautiful! I hope you can find the fabric, sew and review for us!

Waechters has faux shearling in a crackled finish and it's pretty pricey. However I can't stop looking at it. Link I have ordered from them before and can testify their customer service is very good and they always give me free buttons.

I've been looking for black faux shearling but haven't found any on the nets.

I have seen it at Hancocks. Since I wasn't interested in taking on that kind of project, I didn't look too closely so I don't know about the quality. Sometimes Hancocks has pretty good quality fabric and sometimes not so much. That is a nice coat!
