I'm lusting after this machine.

But talked to the awesome guy that I bought my 7700 from... and he isn't carrying this machine. He sells Brother and Janome.

His opinion is that I would be happier with a 10 needle Brother (it has the camera, etc... and obviously 10 colors loaded would be orgasmic! lol)

He is just underwhelmed with the 12000 for the price.

I know that if I plunked down the cash - he'd order one for me. But he says that the Brothers have been so much more trouble-free than the top of the line Janome embroidery machines. He says the lower cost Janome embroidery machines are OK.

I sure trust this guy... he's been sooooooo good to me.

Still love so many things about that 12000... but I also would love to have this tech behind my purchase wholeheartedly - and that's just not the case - at least at this point.

So... anybody that has this machine... I hope you'll share some of your finished work and experiences with this machine here.

Please. :)

If you buy a machine your not really happy with you will never be happy with it and at these price points you want to be happy. If you really like the Janome go for it but go somewhere and test drive it first if he doesn't have it. You don't want to buy a $10k machine without testing it as it won't be returnable if he special orders it.

No. Drooling but no. I have the Janome 10001 3 TOLs back. This machine seems awesome, however I don't like the looks. I guess what I would do is see if he will exchange it for a Brother if you don't like it. But seemingly since he doesn't carry it, isn't really familiar with it so dealer help will be limited. I've found it would have been better for me to have two machines especially since after I brought the 10001 they came out with the 6500 and so on. But I wanted a color screen which the 300 didn't have. I find that I don't do embroidery as much as I thought I would. And now they are bringing out all this sewing machine minus the embroidery.

RipStitcher,

If you go to the Janome Forum on the Janome Website, there are two men there who are forum members. One is a retired Janome/Brother dealer, the other is a current Janome/Bernina dealer.

There is also a Yahoo Group on the 12,000 and the moderator is excellent. He is also a retired Janome/Brother dealer and made some side by side comparisons to the machines in terms of sewing and then of embroidery. It was very interesting. He felt the Janome won in the sewing catagory and Brother won in the embroidery catagory, but not by much. Anyway it was an interesting read. I mentioned before on another thread, I did look at Brother/Babylock, very nice machines but in the end I went for the 12,000 and I have been so happy with it. At first, I really didn't care for the look of the machine, until I sat down and worked on it then I fell in love and got out my pocket book. For me, it was a good decision.

These TOL machine cost a small fortune, especially in this economy you would think we could get some sort of a break.

But, like I said in a previoius post on this site, I am close to my retirement and I debated on buying now or waiting another five years, I decided to buy now with some of my retirement $$.

Don't be in a hurry, take your time. Wait for the new TOL Brother to come out then compare, don't know when that will be though. But I love my Janome 12,000 and even if another TOL machine came out, this is it for me and I am very happy!

Good luck!!

So I watched most of a two hour video on YouTube last night about the latest version of the MBX digitizer software - Trevor (can't remember the last name - starts with a *C*)... anyway.. he was showing the new features in the current version.... very cool.

I haven't had the time to dig for info on this, yet, but I do need to go to YouTube and see if I can find an example of how someone matches up a large design when it requires multiple hooping.

My lofty goals would be do create some unique border designs for quilts as well as I have some other ideas that I need to digitize for some handbag-like objects.

I do *love* the tiny hoop that can embroider on the free-arm, too... which is a great selling point for this machine as well, IMO.

Between you and Southern Stitch throwing out these tantalizing little morsels about this machine... it just makes me want to figure out a way to get 'er sooner!

I just joined two more Yahoo groups last night... I hope I'm getting into the ones you referenced, Grandma 52. :)

Any chance you could share the links to those exact groups here?

If I'm in the right ones, I'm going to go back and read through the archives - especially hearing the comparisons between this machine and the Brother or Bernina.

Thanks for all of your help!

Rip

I have one, I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE it. I would only get one from a dealer certified to sell/repair that machine, not all of the Janome dealers in this area carry it, they have to have something from Janome to sell it.

The only dislike I have with it is Walking foot is not built in. My beloved hubby uses it more than I do at the moment for his Pillow projects. I love the wider stitch width and the create your own stitch feature.

I would honestly pick one image and get it in all of the formats for the diff machines and test drive everyone you can before plunking down that kind of money. Find out which ones work best for you.

I found by doing that I have the same image done on a Pfaff, Brother, Janome and a Bernina and I could compare them all side by side, so I could see any differences (there were some).

I did keep my 7700 as well, I use the drop down walking foot quite a bit.

For me it was more of an ergonomic issue than an output issue. I am very tall with trifocals on when I sew. I had issues seeing some of the machine LCD Displays, and scrunching down to see the display while sewing is not an option for me. Got to see the new Brother Dreamweaver series this weekend. Nice machine!!!!

The Yahoo Group is just called Janome 12,000, that's it.

And the Janome forum is on the Janome website. At the top of the page there is a tab called *Learning Center*, let your mouse highlight it and another window opens up and then click on Forum. It has really helped me a lot.
