threading a Babylock serger

I have a basic question. In the middle of a project, the upper looper thread broke. So I unthreaded the serger needles and lower looper-not all the way, but just up to the tension discs. I followed the sequence recommended for my serger-upper looper, lower looper, R needle and left needle. However, the machine will serge for a few inches, then stop serging, and the upper looper thread breaks again. Do I need to completely unthread the machine-up to the spools? If I continue to have problems, I pull out all threads and rethread completely. You might also need to change needles. Good luck! Similar thing happened to me yesterday afternoon. I had been working on a fleece top and when I wanted to change from a narrow 3-thread overlock to a wider 3-thread I just couldn't get my threading to work. The needle wasn't catching the upper looper thread. I tinkered and tinkered for about an hour. Finally I told myself that this was just not the time to be fussing with it and that I'd come back the next day and start over. That's just what I did. Came in and re-threaded (actually changed to a four-thread overlock) and it was beautiful. Some days are like that and nothing you do will work. I unthreaded, re-threaded several times -- problem continued to frustrate the devil outta me. After several hours, reading the manual, actually almost going NUTZ, I changed the needle. Didn't I feel like a real "ditz" -- how simple, and yet how stupid of me not to have thought of this in the beginning!! A lesson well learned for me -- perhaps, I should change the needle first, then try re-threading!! Good luck with yours!!

Sometimes it can get caught on the cone itself and sometimes it can knot as it comes off. ------ My grandmother taught me to sew when I was 10, and I've been sewing ever since.

To rethread, do I have to unthread all the way to the spools, or can I resume the treading AFTER the tension discs,of course following the recommended sequence for my serger? Thanks. ------ usis
