ISO Lap top bag for a teen boy Son just got a laptop

For now he will be using a laptop bag that we had around the house. I would like to make him one for Christmas. He is a nerd and never asks for anything for himself. He was over the moon to get the laptop. Does anyone have any pattern suggestions for a lap top bag for a man? ------ Proud parent of a Dwight International School Honour Roll Student

The bags are made of thick nylon material with strong straps. The good ones are well padded and have many compartments for cables, etc. Plus, they don't cost that much. I think McCall's 6410 or Butterick 5694 would be okay depending upon the fabric choice and slightly modifying the size to accommodate the laptop.

I think the choice of fabric and/or embroidery can really make it a bloke's bag. Many of the patterns don't have anywhere near the same level of padding as the commercial ones do so you need to be a bit careful with them. I made a laptop bag for myself recently and looked at quite a few patterns. One of the things I found was that they cater well for the laptop, but not necessarily all the bits that go with them eg powerpack, mouse, phone etc. So you may want to look at how well that fits with your pattern. It is fairly easy to add extra pockets etc. This is my review if you are interested, as it has a lot of modifications done to fit my gear into. One thing I forgot to do was to have a water-resistant layer, either in the outer fabrics on in the lining. ------ It's the journey, not the destination that counts
