Which needles for a Babylock 1600?

Date: 9/20/12 1:09 PM I purchased a secondhand Speedylock 1600 at a yard sale-- my first little serger! When I last got it threaded and tested it out, it skipped stitches, so I'm looking to replace the needles. I'm a bit puzzled on which needles it needs, though. The manual only says to use HA-1 needles. Are these the same as 15x1 needles? Can the needles I need be bought at JoAnn or from WAWAK sewing supplies? (I'm putting in an order for other things, might as well get needles!) It came with one random Organ needle and one 75/11 of a different brand. I'm not sure if it was skipping stitches because these were the wrong needles or simply because the needles were old! Your serger uses sewing machine needles. The Organ brand needle is probably the brand that came with the BL. HA is a type (home vs industrial) and that is what is in the machine. Go by the size numbers 75/11; 80/12; 90/14. The first number is metric and the second US. The higher the number, the larger the needle. The previous owner probably had to replace the other needle and could not find the Organ brand and used whatever brand found at the fabric shop...maybe Schmetz. When you replace the needles, be sure they go all the way up into the needle shaft. Singer brand sewing machine needles are a tiny bit shorter and may or may not affect the forming of stitches on a non-Singer brand serger. -- Edited on 9/20/12 2:02 PM --
