Have you sewn with modal spandex? Do you like it? Is it easy to care for?
Can it stand up to machine washing and drying? Thinking of buying some. Thought I'd ask before I acted.

Some of the modal knits pill and seem fragile to me. I have sewn tops. I still like the fabric though. Use gentle cycle and air dry. Or do a test sample -- washing and drying several times to see how it goes.

Modal is another name for rayon. And it shrinks so be sure to prewash several times.

Were you going to order mail order? Where?

I was thinking of ordering from High End Fabrics on ebay as recommended by some PR members. Have you ever ordered from them? Do you have a good source?

I order modals from High End Fabrics on ebay all the time. I prefer those that are at least 8 oz. High End is a good seller; fabrics are as described and shipped quickly. I've seen modals on the Emma One Sock site, too, but never ordered them.

I treat modal fabrics the same as my nice rayons...pre-treat in cold water and machine-dry on low until completely dry. After that, wash the garment inside out the same way, but air dry. This method is recommended by Christine Jonson.

Edit: I should add that modal does seem to pill a bit more than rayon. Both fabrics are sensitive to heat, so I press carefully and minimally with a warm iron during construction.

Thanks for taking the time to relate your experience with modal. I'm confused about the micro modal. Do you know how that differs from regular modal?

Micro modal is made from finer (thinner) fibers and spun into finer yarns, resulting in sheer, thin fabrics. I find them too thin for my preference, but I suppose they would be nice for layering.
