Price shopping for BL Evolution

My old entry-level Pfaff just isn't making me happy. But the pricing is so hard to sort out. I've been googling and found an out-of-state dealer who lists the MSRP as $4,000, but my local dealer claims it's $4700. That's a big difference. Does anyone know how this works? As a final resort, I might ask my sister to check out the sewing expo coming up in Chantilly VA. Do they generally have good deals at these events? And, do they have the machines on hand to take home, or do they have to be ordered. Thanks for any guidance you can give.

BabyLock ships from Fenton MO, so the closer the dealer, the less the shipping expense. Dealer price would be based on how much profit there would be after operating expenses. This can vary depending geographic location, state and city taxes, licenses, permits, etc. as well as rent, mortgage, upkeep, utilities, staff wages, accounting fees, shipping expenses for the merchandise being offered and on and on...........and then there is sales volume. Look at your personal expenses. If you live in the "high rent district" or even a blighted area you are going to pay more for everything than what someone who lives in a more conservative area will pay. I think I should clarify: my local dealer is offering $2000 off MSRP with a trade-in, so I'd be paying $2700. The current BL promotion also includes 6 feet, a book, and 8 cones of thread. They also have zero percent financing, but that's not relevant, as I'd pay cash. My sister lives close to the Chantilly where there will be an Expo right before she drives up to visit me. I really want a new serger, but I need to make a rational decision. Boo hoo.

Search babylock evolution and other related search terms. Use the upper right SEARCH button and you'll find useful info. Short answer, pricing is all over the map and there are infinite kinds of deals. You can compare to see how you feel about what you've been offered. Can you trade in any old clunker you find on Craigslist? When you check the other threads you will find that although your pricing is not the most amazing it is close to the better prices and far from the worst - if you can use a clunker as a trade. ------ I have no idea what Apple thought I was saying so be a Peach and credit anything bizarre to auto correct.

I posted in the other thread what I paid for the "I want it all" set, but the price here in the Seattle area otherwise was $2999 (OK - $3K) but it's an expensive area, so overhead is high - we're a long ways from the distributor, etc. I upgraded to the set with all the bells and whistles - trolly, case with almost all the feet, inspiration book and a starter supply of good thread and it was $400 more, I believe. Then I added the extended warranty which added another $500. I misspoke in the other thread and said I got the "Gold Standard" from Babylock, but actually, what I got was a 6-year extended warranty through the dealer. I guess if I moved away from Western WA in that time frame, I'd be losing out, but otherwise, it's a very good deal for me, since I can drive a couple miles to the closest location (they have about a dozen stores) and drop it off for service. Their standard price for an annual servicing is $169, so I'll get 6 of those, plus parts, all for the $500. Anyway, that means I spent over $4000 with our high sales tax rate, but I figure If I never buy another serger again, it will be money well spent. Looks like it's more than in a lot of other areas though, but I just really like to A) have the convenience of the dealer right here and B) buy local and support local businesses and their employees. It's actually pretty important to me to do so when it's feasible.

I know they charge tax up here also. I am tempted to buy as I like the wave stitch and the ability to serge and coverlock. I'm debating as to whether I want that or the pfaff creativelock 4874 for creativity. I do like the them both. -- Edited on 9/29/12 0:21 AM --
