Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

What is the connection with the BurdaStyle website and the German publishing house that brings forth the various Burda magazines (including needlework, craft, dress patterns) and the German language based web site where the previews of Burda are released to its adoring public

Thank you in advance for your response

It appears to be like Sew Iconic and Famous Frocks. I'm not impressed with the dress on the front cover at all. Nor I'm I interested in a Like A Virgin bustier. But if the Yves Saint Laurent pattern is a good one of his Mondrian dress, then I might be tempted to put this in my sewing library.

This was exactly my first thought.

The description on Amazon says: "Dior’s New Look silhouette. Jackie Kennedy’s sheath dress. Madonna’s bustier. Fashion trends come and go, but certain iconic styles never fade. Make them for yourself with BurdaStyle’s new guide to sewing fashion through the decades. Five adaptable master patterns for tops, dresses, and pants are transformed into nineteen unique projects for both women and men that draw inspiration from key fashion moments. These influential looks—from the Roaring Twenties to the Awesome Eighties—are all modernized and reinterpreted for today’s sewing enthusiasts...
They provide step-by-step instructions and techniques for customizing the enclosed master patterns into new design variations, all perfectly fitted for you. You’ll also get a taste of fashion history—the essential designers, signature trends, and style icons from each era—to help you channel your inner Coco Chanel, Audrey Hepburn, or Yves Saint Laurent...
Whether you prefer a slim-fit pant, the perfect men’s button-down, or a versatile shift dress, this book offers a classic collection that will last you a lifetime."

So it seems there are 5 basic patterns and, by using variations of each pattern, you can create looks inspired by various eras.

The project sounds interesting, but I don't think it's for me. I'm a little confused by the fact that the styles have been "modernized and reinterpreted". I mean, are they vintage looks or are they modern looks, you know? I will definitely be interested to see garments made from the book, though.

I'm somewhat (amused) (horrified) (insert your own reaction) to the thought of Madonna's bustier being an iconic piece of clothing that women everywhere want to own and wear. The visual of an older woman (such as myself) wearing such a garment is certainly interesting. The reaction of the viewing public would be even more interesting.

I'm the odd man out here. I wouldn't mind Madonna's bustier! But hopefully the Like a Virgin one, which I think was originally an actual bridal bustier. The Jean Paul Gaultier would be cool, but not particularly wearable lol

While checking the site today I noticed they finally have their preview up that they promised, along with 7 project pictures for "Sewing Pattern PDF Downloads for eBook Customers"

Here: http://www.burdastyle.com/burdastyle-sewing-vintage-modern

The PDF projects are called...
1.Louisa Drop-Waist Dress
2.Frank Button-Down Shirt
3.Elizabeth Gathered-Waist Dress
4.Jamie Shift Dress
5.Greta Day Dress Extra Skirt and Wrap
6.Jean Stirrup Pants
7..Extra Women's Sleeve

I'm recently new to sewing and was waiting to see if I was interested in this before purchasing the first book. Sadly, after seeing the "look Now" and the PDF's of the projects, I'm not impressed. I do however love the projects that the first book has so I think I'll just be buying that one.

Thanks for the information about the pdfs. I wasn't that impressed either and cancelled my preorder. Aside from the stirrup pant, I own similar patterns. And I am pretty certain I don't need a stirrup jean . . . I did wear stirrup pants the last time they were in fasion but I was a teenager
