I have a 4 thread serger and a separate coverstitch machine, and need to learn both better. Will this class be of benefit, or will I lose too much by not having the 5 thread machine?

Hi gwill
That's a tough one. I think you would be better off taking "break your serger out of the box" ... I believe it will be offered again soon. I use a 4 thread in that class. I think after you take the time to get comfortable with your 4 thread, the cover stitch machine will seem very familiar to you. (the cover stitch is very simple to use because it only does one kind of stitch). Let me know if you need more information, Jen

How long do I have to view the videos, and how many times can I watch them?

Can i use my 4 thread White Super Lock #534D serger for this class? It is 20+ years old but in good condition and serviced every two years. Will there eventually be a CD of this class when I've finished? Or just forever access to this website?

I have a 25-year-old Elna 5-thread serger. It was a very good one when I bought it and was serviceable for many years, although I haven't used it much for a long time. It's not a cover stitch machine. Are the cover stitches you refer to specifically for machines with that capability, or is there a work around for other models?

Subject: threading question Date: 10/9/12 4:32 AM

I have an industrial Juki 5 thread serger, I use it with just 3 threads. I haven't been able to figure out the threading with the 5 threads. Would this class help with that, too? Thanks.

...Hi jorgel,
That's a great question.... Industrial equipment looks a little different than home versions... I just peeked at the industrial Juki 4 thread we use at school.. It has all the same parts, it's just more difficult to get to some of the parts.... Another thing I notice is that there are no numbers to help set the tensions... I think this would be a similar situation for your 5-thread... The needles and threads you would use would be the same as a home version, the loopers would be the same... If you are not comfortable taking the serger apart and rethreading it... this call may help you with that... I know that the lower looper and chain looper will probably be more of a challenge to thread because of the other parts that are in the way... Hope this response helps... let me know if you need more input! Thanks Jen

Jen,
Thanks for your prompt reply. You said "this call may help with that". What "call" are you talking about. I thought it was a webinar class (not that I understand exactly what that entails), is there any direct voice to voice, how exactly will I figure out this threading. I can thread the 3 threads I use, and I can thread my 4 thread Janome home machine. I would be really interested in taking this class, if you can be more specific about how to get it threaded, I'm in. Thanks.
Barbara

Hi Barbara, I think it was a typo. Jennifer meant to say "this class"
