Its a BEAUTY...fotomatic III. Its been at my son's with the very industrial/mid-mod tastes holding up books for the last 2 years and he seemed to want to give it back. It sews a great straight stitch but cam-stack is cracked. I am determined to get it fixed. Anyone know of a source or do i just keep a look-out for another one to harvest? Also, does anyone know if i'm limited to that particular model or might a cam-stack from a fotomatic IV also work? I'd like to know which models (if any) use the identical cam-stack...so i can broaden my search a bit. I notice this model comes in various colors but i assume all else is the same. It has to weigh 50 lbs!

Does your machine take cams? I have a fotomatic deluxe that takes cams and a fotomatic IV, which does not. These Morse machines are sometimes rare - I have never seen another like my fotomatic deluxe that takes cams or the cams, and I have see a zillion fotomatic IV's. I have coveted the Apollo, which takes cams, but is rare. The company is no help; I have emailed and called for 2 years with no returns.

On my fotomatic III, the stitches are built in but right now, it will only do a straight-stitch and none of the zig-zag stitches. A tech told me the camstack was cracked and it could not be fixed. i've read of this problem being common with machines of this type/age. I have vintage Singers also but this Morse really feels like it means business...weighs quite a lot more and the straight stitch is perfection. I bought it a long time ago and except for trying to get it fixed, I haven't used it much. its worth what i paid in eye-candy. I would love to find a IV...they are the most handsome machines ever made! I imagine finding working units is getting next to impossible now?

I may have located the part I need for the Morse! Before I proceed, I'd like to know if the Morse will fit a singer cabinet? The measurements are the same but the hinge-pins on the morse seem to be plastic. anybody know if this can work?

I would think it would fit in a singer cabinet. I'm so glad you may be on your way to getting that lovely old Morse to perfection. I agree that the straight stitch is great. I haven't been able to find a more perfect stitch in any of the other machines I have tried, new or old. I also have an old Kenmore 1813 that I just recently purchased for more decorative stitches. I has the monogrammer, buttonholer, and 42 stitches with all of the cams. I got it mainly for decorative sewing. I still primarily use the Morse for just straight and zig zag.

My 300 Deluxe (which is a straight stitch only) will fit in my 15-91 cabinet. I haven't messed with the hinge pins, I took the screws out and the hinges themselves fit perfectly (I didn't screw it down, but the holes are in different places).

Dukaqwn, I took the Morse to a different shop and the tech there said it did NOT have a cracked cam-stack and he had it working in short order--no parts required. He said he just "cleaned off some grease". The first guy cleaned/oiled and pronounced it incapable of zig-zag stitches. I don't believe the first guy touched it! That was 2 years ago so I can't do anything about that now but i'm happy to have it in working order!! It is zig-zag 4300. I know your Kenmore 1813 is very desirable one also. I didn't know anyone else to share my good news with! They don't get it.

My Morse 4300 has a cracked camstack. However, it is still in working condition. I'm going to sew on it until it finally falls apart because out of my 10 machines, it is my favorite for the speed and fine stitches. I also Love, Love, Love the turquoise and chrome coloring.
