I have a large stash. Not only fabrics, but patterns, trims, etc. DH sometimes points out the abundance of the stash. But it came to my rescue this weekend.
I am making DD a dress for Homecoming. The nearest fabric stores are over 100 miles away, but I was able to find some organza for the overlay there. Everything else came from the stash: the lining, underlining, boning, even sequins that are the Exact Matching Color.
Having a big stash doesn't seem so bad anymore!

Great outcome!

I am enjoying my stash at the moment as it was bought in times of plenty (usually at sale prices) and now when our cash flow is a little tight, I can still sew to my hearts content! It is keeping me sane at a difficult time.

LOVE the reasoning!

I like that I can just get up and sew pretty much anything I want: a top, pants, skirt, bag, etc without having to plan ahead! I have everything I need from patterns to fabric to most notions, thread, muslin & interfacing.

It's kinda fun to shop your own store :-)

I have been sewing from my stash most of the summer. It does feel good to use the fabric that I have been collecting over the last 10 years.
The down side has been some fabrics have had fold lines. So far I have been able to work around this problem.
Winter sewing is also going to be from the stash.
I have been retired for a number of years so it is time to dig in and use up what I have.

DH jokes that I am saving up to open my own fabric store too.
But you can't joke when its 7PM on a Sunday and you feel the need to make a new dress to wear tomorrow.

I defend my right to stash!
This includes buying lining by the bolt (at wholesale price) and thread by the dozen.

Couldn't agree more. I have made things from stash far more frequently than I have bought specifically for a project. It saves a lot of money on petrol.

I think having a decent stash helps me be more creative - if I don't run to the store, I have to use what's already in my closet. Makes me stretch more on the creative side. And I REALLY like the feeling I get when I am able to make something with items on hand.

Also, I have gotten over feeling guilty about having a stash. Hubby's hobbies are always more expensive than mine - men don't feel guilty about things like this as much as women do, IMHO.

I built my stash on purpose, I like to make what I want when I feel like it. I do sometimes order fabric for a specific project but mostly I like to get inspiration on my own.

Stash can be very good. After promising to make a red Lil Orphan Annie dress for a friend's child, I got the urge late on a Friday evening a week agao. The whole thing was stash! I got the dress started that evening and finished it the next afternoon. No fussing around... Yes, stash can be a very good thing.

Technically, I only sew out of the stash. There is no place to run to for fabric around here. I buy everything with a concept; just no timeline.
