Went to my favorite flea market yesterday and happened upon a 1948 Singer 201-2. It's in a nice cabinet, too. Price was marked "$38.75 firm." I contained my excitement, but I couldn't buy that machine fast enough. I was actually shopping for used furniture for my son's apartment.

The machine's in great condition cosmetically, but it needs a new cord and foot pedal. I'll have to get my local repair guy to rewire it, too.

Thought this would post to "finds." I also see that my photo is a no-show.

Wow, you got a really good deal on that one. I hope you'll get a pic up soon.

You really got a deal! I bought one of these at an estate sale this summer-yours looks like it might even be the same cabinet as mine. They had no clue what to charge, so I offered $50 since it was in the cabinet. My husband couldn't believe I didn't start at $25! I have 10 or 11 other vintage machines (sorry, it IS an affliction), but the 201 is my new favorite. Just yesterday I wired a new electronic foot control (from Jenny at Sew-Classic), because the button foot control was the only thing I did not like about it. It is now perfect! You will love the absolutely perfect stitches, and the fact that it will sew through anything. I just made a leather zippered pouch for my iPad and its' paraphernalia, and it sewed like a dream.

Now that is quite a find. My friend's late mil's 201 had been stored and neglected for years. It cleaned up beautifully and with new wiring she is just thrilled. She had been sewing now and then on the cheapest of the cheapest junk tinker toy machines and is just thrilled with the 201. I hope your 201 is a great machine for you.

Heh heh....

I would have dug $35 out of my pocket and talked him down - just for the fun of it.

(j/k)

Congrats... great find!

On my radar someday: Babylock Serger, and some machine for travel.

My dearest wish is to have Bernina come out with a machine that doesn't give me a reason to *not* buy it.
