Date: 10/2/12 8:04 AM Has anyone used this MicroStitch gun to baste a quilt? A local quilt shop employee tells me you can sew right over them; is this true. I want to FMQ my quilt after basting. I am told the fasteners leave no mark as they are so fine.

Date: 10/2/12 8:16 AM I don't know either. I bought one of those about 10 years ago and then kind of lost interest in quilting and never used it.
It's still in my notions box though and if it works I can put it to work now that I've started quiting again. ------ Linda

Date: 10/2/12 8:34 AM I just read the reviews and noticed the bad ones were from people trying to do clothing alterations but the few from quilters were very good. I researched these several years ago and Avery Dennison was the one recommended. The complaints were that they put holes in the fabrics. This one is micro-sized so I think it might work pretty well! For $20, you could probably find other uses if it didn't perform well for basting. |

Date: 10/2/12 9:07 AM I agree that it is not a huge monetary outlay. I saw a quilt [lap size] that the user was snipping the tags from and it did not appear to have holes. I think I may get one and try it. ------ Elna Excellence 740, Pfaff Quilt expression 4.0, Janome 300E, Brother 8500D, Janome 900CPX CoverPro, Brother 5234 Project Runway Serger, Singer Treadle

Date: 10/2/12 11:51 AM Several years ago I purchased what may have been the original basting gun, extra refills and a grid to slip under the quilt when tacking/basting the layers of the quilt together.
I found the idea good, but the original tacks are way too long for my preference.
The write-up for the MicroStitch indicates this would be a much better notion than the original product as the tacks are thinner and shorter. May give it a try.
I always make a sample quilt for testing the stitching and would definitely include the MS in the test. ------ “I don’t give them Hell, I just tell the truth about them and they think it’s Hell.” — Harry Truman |

Date: 10/2/12 1:09 PM This is from the insert:
"Protects work surface and eliminates putting hand under quilt when using Quilters Basting Gun."
No mention of protecting the needle.
This is an old version and a newer product may include protecting the needle as well, which makes sense to me.

Date: 10/2/12 1:32 PM Thanks PattiAnn. Using the grid definitely would assist in not moving the quilt pieces too much; actually I think it might be hard to put your hand under a large quilt so this makes alot of sense. ------ Elna Excellence 740, Pfaff Quilt expression 4.0, Janome 300E, Brother 8500D, Janome 900CPX CoverPro, Brother 5234 Project Runway Serger, Singer Treadle
