I am redesigning my sewing room and have ample space to customize a cutting table. What designs and sizes have proven to work best for everyone?

I would go for 45" by 72" that way you can get two yards of fabric on top and have plenty of width, but not too wide to reach across.
My table is 28" x 56" which perfectly fits my cutting mat, and it works fine for most of my sewing.
But if I could I would have a longer table.

I have a door (36x80) that works for almost everything and is light enough that I can turn it so one side has a cutting mat glued on and the other side is padded for ironing. The only time it wasn't adequate was for the circle satin skirt of a wedding dress. I'm thinking about my dream studio now (we will be moving) and I'm trying to think of how to keep the current flexibility while also having another 2' when I need it.

I use 2 plastic, folding tables pushed together. I'm tall, so I have them raised up on paint cans. The two tables are wide enough to cut out anything I need to cut and also provide room to have pins, chalk, scissors, etc. close at hand.

My table is 40"x78". This one.. I had mine made with four drawers instead of two.
I love that it folds down. Usually I work on it with just one leaf raised unless I'm working on something really large. I love that it's so versatile that way!

The best size if you have plenty of space is a table that is wide enough to lay out standard widths of fabric single layer. My table is 60" wide and 8" long when the drop leaves are up.

Ooh, I vote for yours! And the drawers are "pass through" - what a great feature.

And to the original poster - I'd make it as big as fits comfortably in the room. You need space to walk around, open doors/drawers, sit in front of machines (w/ your back to the table?), but after that, as big as you can.

I was spoiled by working in theatrical costume shops (at 2 different colleges) - muslin/canvas covered tables in the center of the room, with a shelf underneath for storage of bolt of fabric and or other large things (like a yardstick sized T-square).

Also be sure to have it tall enough (I use my pub height kitchen table now, lol), and get some of those special mats for standing on. I've had to take breaks lately - or my back and knees really feel it.

Hi Susan, can you tell me where you can buy a 28x56 cutting mat, My table came with one six years ago, and needs to be replaced, but I can not find that size anywhere.
Thanks for your help.
