I'm always on the lookout for places to buy fabric online in Australia and NZ. There's a great list of North American and European places already on this board. Many ship worldwide but a number don't, and shipping is of course expensive.

The list below omits the many stores selling quilting cottons or home furnishing fabrics.

What are your favourite local online stores?

New Zealand
Dance Fabrics Direct: mainly dance fabrics, but also good for powernet, swimsuit lycra and tricot. They have some wovens too, plus dance "stuff" like sequins. Service is excellent both by phone and by email.

Angel Fabrics (dance supplies): I haven't ordered from this store, but their range is similar to Dance Fabrics without the extras.

Booby Traps NZ: Bra supplies. They say fabric is sold by the metre as well as in kits, but I can't see it on the website. This is a sister to the Australian store.

New Zealand Merino: This is a fairly new store with good prices for a range of merino and merino blend fabrics. I've bought some of these fabrics through TradeMe sellers (perhaps the same one) and they were good.

Green Beans Nappy fabrics, (including laminated, minky, bamboo, hemp etc) plus snaps and elastics.

TradeMe sellers (NZ's online auction site)- there doesn't appear to be a way to search for stores but I have purchased quite a few things from Backstreet Bargains (bsb2, in Hamilton) and from Rigter (Rotorua). Both answer questions promptly and will cut to length. Both sell a lot of wool.

Australia
Turns out there are a lot listed online so here are a few, but Aussies please add places you've had a good experience with.

Bamboo Fabric Store: I haven't ordered from these but I have asked them questions and the response was very prompt and helpful. The website accepts only full metre orders but you can email to order part metres. Good range of fabric colours and also sells bamboo
clothing and other stuff.

Booby Traps Australia: Bra kits, fabrics and findings.

Crafty Mamas Children's fabrics and also European pattern magazines.

Darn Cheap Fabrics: Nice website. Can't find any shipping information.

Earthgirl Lots of quilting cotton but also knits. Cute fabrics. Says international orders are welcome.

Funky Fabrix: retro and modern organic and natural fabrics. Mostly cotton, including flannettes, silk/cotton blends and corduroy.

Kelani Fabrics- I have not used this site, but lusted after some of their fabrics, free postage in Australia if order over $50

Knitwit: knit fabrics. Only ships within Australia. I have emailed them (twice) to ask if they will consider shipping to NZ but never received a reply.

Lincraft: Appears to ship only within Australia.

Voodoo Rabbit- "haven't tried it yet, but looks like it has some interesting fabrics, patterns and bag notions, probably more too but that is what I was looking at... " "Voodoo Rabbit is a great shop! The owner, Kylie, is lovely."

Tessuti: High end fabrics. Ships worldwide (free shipping over $150).

XS Fabrics: "affordable designer fabrics". Ships worldwide.

Great idea Lyndle! A couple of the top of my head..

Carafty Mamas - free shipping in Australia, used to be hard to navigate but have just improved to a new site. Indy patterns, great European fabrics, ribs, trims, etc.

Kelani Fabrics - I have not used this site, but lusted after some of their fabrics, free postage in Australia if order over $50

Voodoo rabbit - haven't tried it yet, but looks like it has some interesting fabrics, patterns and bag notions, probably more too but that is what I was looking at...

Voodoo Rabbit is a great shop! The owner, Kylie, is lovely.

Rathdowne Remnants have a small online shop, but because they have a high turnover, it's difficult to keep it updated. They have always (and still do) sent out orders by mail if you ring or email.

The Fabric Store also does samples and mail order.

Ink and Spindle if you're looking for handprinted natural fibres.

Duckcloth. Again, natural fibres.

And, of course, Spotlight do phone or mail orders from the catalogues.

Nice pieces can also be found on Etsy and Ebay.

The Fabric Store in Australia will send samples and fabric. Its website The Fabric Store has an email form. I have phoned for samples and their service was prompt, but I dithered for too long over choosing and the fabric was gone by the time I was ready to order, so their turnover must be high.
Its sister company in NZ, Global Fabrics would do the same thing I guess.
All their stores that I have been to have great ranges and helpful staff.

A local ACT fabric shop, Addicted to Fabric, has an online order section on its website. Their shop has quilting fabrics and clothing fabrics, including Liberty. Ink & Spindle's fabrics are also available from here.

Lincraft online does sell only to Australian customers.

Spotlight Australia and Spotlight NZ have their catalogues on their websites and you can order online from the catalogues. I have emailed Spotlight Aust about a hard-to-get fabric (japara) and received a prompt response (they supplied it).

Don't forget Kerryn's Fabric World gorgeous fabrics, woven and knits, every day and special occassion.

The Remnant Warehouse again all sorts of woven and knits, and a very good supply of denim and quliting cottons.

Hi ladiesThankyou very much for adding my stores to your list!

The original Crafty Mamas shop is still open,

www.craftymamas.com.au

It will eventually stock a lot of locally sourced fabrics, from clothing manufacturers etc

The new sister store ( that I love so much!) is where I will be keeping all the my Euro supplies. The current url is here
http://crafty-mamas.myshopify.com/

but I am still moving everything over.

Just wanted to explain why I now have the two! Hopefully it will make for happier shopping!

Sew on !

Lisa :)

Another recommendation for Voodoo Rabbit, I have used them for a purse kit (which I have even used rather than stashed). There postage to NZ is exceptionally good value, fantastically fast service and beautifully packaged. I'll definitely use them again.

If you know what you want Levana Textiles in Levin with do phone order. They have a fantastic range of merino and cotton knits, including matching trim in many cases.

Thanks! I didn't know Levana did phone orders. Global Fabrics does do phone service, I think.

Keen for any more New Zealand sellers! And any Aussie ones if there are more.
