Date: 10/3/12 2:01 PM I have ordered from Clotilde several times over the past 10-15 years without any problems. Last month I placed a large order (over $200) because they had some quilt kits on sale at very good prices. Not only did it take f-o-r-e-v-e-r to arrive but when it finally did, one of the quilt kits was missing. I ordered multiples of one kit in order to increase the finished size from a lap quilt to a bed quilt and while the paperwork indicated 3 ordered, 3 shipped it was really 3 ordered, 2 shipped. I was unable to find a phone number for customer service on the Clotilde website and the only option to contact via email was to report problems with downloading patterns (not my issue). I finally was able to reach someone by phone only to learn they were sold out of the missing kit, could not send me another one, and I could just send them back if I didn't want the two I received (no mention of the refund that was due to me). When I said I wanted them to provide a UPS call tag she put me on hold for the longest time (no doubt hoping I would hang up). The really irritating thing is that she said, "We only had two left by the time we filled your order." Well, if that were the case - why didn't the packing slip say they were only sending 2? And were they hoping I wouldn't notice and thereby not care about the $30 refund owed to me? Clotilde used to be a good company but ever since it was sold to some conglomerate it has gone sideways. I will stick with Nancy's Notions, which has very attractive sales and frequent free shipping specials and above all, great customer service. Stay away from Clotilde if you value your time and resources. |

Date: 10/3/12 3:59 PM Clotilde died late last year. That might be a factor, although it looks as though since 2002 the catalogue has belonged to another business that also owns Annie's Attic.
Perhaps, like many investments, it's being traded or merged. Product quality and customer service are rarely factors that matter greatly to investors.

Subject: Clotilde - whats up with that company these days? Date: 10/4/12 9:40 AM I had no idea Clothilde had died -- that's awful. I had attended one of her gatherings several years ago, and enjoyed her very much.
I've not ever had any problems when purchasing from clothilde's site, however I don't usually spend lots of money all at once -- my main purchases usually consist of books, notions and/or patterns.
I'm so sorry you had a bad experience. |

Subject: Clotilde - whats up with that company these days? Date: 10/4/12 10:21 AM I didn't know, either, that Clotilda had died. She, and her catalog and first book, were my main support when I got back into sewing.
We even talked on the phone a few times when there were NO sewers around to give me advice, would you believe?!
It's too bad the catalog just is not the same great one it used to be.

Subject: Clotilde - whats up with that company these days? Date: 11/29/12 10:10 PM I do wish I had read this before my last order. They were quick to take my money and very slow to identify that one of the items (the most expensive one) was out of stock and not reorderable. I don't know if I would have done the order without that bit, but the weeklong delay in refunding the difference was annoying. The really late shipping was just another part of the experience. I am sorry, I too am a fan of the lady, and it was a great source for the scarce. Dang. |
