I have a viking saphire quilters addition.

I was considering trading it in a for a janome cuz I was having some SERIOUS issues with the tension. but the owner said that theres a lot less people buying Vikings so I couldn't trade it in.

He said I'd be lucky to get it for a $1000 and then I'd need additional money for a good Janome.

anyone have any ideas of what I should do?

could my tension issues be easily solved by being worked on? has anyone had theses issues dissolved after being fixed?

I don't own a Viking, so I'm not speaking from any experience with them but...I think that's kind of a strange statement for a dealer to make. Sewists can be very brand loyal. Whatever...

If there is a Viking dealer, or reputable service person in your area (other than the one you talked to), I think I would take the machine in for servicing because it may or may not be the tension. If they can get the issues fixed, you'd be in a much better position to sell the machine yourself if you still want to get something different.

Make sure it's really the just something wrong with your actual machine and not you and operator error or sewing choices instead.

I think most times way more likely just to be operator error instead, though sometimes something could really be wrong with a top tension device or a bobbin case

I do very much remember having tension issues or at least what I thought were often tension issues on almost every machine I sewed on, on and off for the first few years of sewing. It was really me all that time, not understanding how that worked there instead. Don't let that happen to you.

Because, if you got something like that going on, then it would probably just happen on each and every new machine you got too, no matter what kind. So for sure, just rule that out first.

I think the best way to do that, is sew on some problem fabric or something/anything you think and feel you just have tension issues on, in front of someone else that knows about that stuff, and just let that happen there so they can see that. Then if you ask them to do it instead, and they do something different about how they use the machine, (even if it is just switching to different thread, a different needle, using a Jean a ma jag, taking stuck thread out of the machine, whatever or just a different sewing technique and everything is just fine and dandy for them instead, when sewing on the same machine then you know it's just you instead and so then just ask them what they did different, or just watch them even, and make them show you about it. I think you should try that.
