Date: 10/7/12 3:13 AM I just got EQ7 the other day and have enjoyed it with what little time I have had avaliable to play with it. I was able to design a block and then shrink/enlarge the blocks to get the exact over all effect I wanted and yet still remain the finished size I wanted. Printed out my fabric list and went shopping. It was nice to not fret about having to do all the math repeatedly. I am very visual and cant wait to start scanning fabric into it so I can get an even more realistic look at the quilt before I start cutting....especially since color choice is probably my biggest challenge right now.
I have a few bumps which is the learning curve that comes with any new software, but overall it wasnt bad...definately wasnt enough to put me off the software. Goodness knows I wont ever use all the features in EQ7, but it fits the bill for me.
Note - if you go to the quilt in a day website, you can usually pick up EQ7 for under $150 with free shipping. That $50 savings is what pushed me into getting the software before Christmas.
I will be honest. I did not look at much other software. One of the instructors at my LQS has at least 5 different software programs for quilting and when she asked me what I wanted to use the program for, and how I would use the program, she advised me that EQ7 would fit my needs and then some, where as with the others, I might need bits and parts from two or even three programs, all of which wouldnt combine into one quilt/file. She recommended it for the reasons I stated above that are important to me....fabric scanning, quick and easy resizing, multiple layouts and numerous border options all built in, along with tons of other features I probably wont ever get the time to explore, but if I ever do, they will be there waiting for me. I wanted a program that I could be comfortable with at a basic level and yet have one that could grow with me. So far I feel that EQ7 was a good match for me.

Date: 10/23/12 1:17 AM I have EQ7, have not tried other software. I do like it, other than I feel like I sit and plan with it more that I sit and sew with it.... That's just me though. I could sit for hours with just pencil and paper to plan....
The best part of the program for me is size options, once you decide on the block, you can choose any size you want... I like this especially for paper piecing, but you can use this feature whether for template cutting or rotary. |
