I purchased a simple draw string Burda pants pattern from the Burda Style site.

The pattern has a 4inch by 4 inch square inserted in the pieces. Directions state the square should print these dimensions from my home printer. My printer is printing the square as 4.25 inches by 4.25.

I have a Mac computer, my browser is Google and my computer is HP laserjet 1012.

I have tried to change the percentage when printing the pattern starting with 95% too small, then trying increments all the way up to 99% but cannot get the pattern to print 4x4 inches. Everything below 100% was smaller than 4x4 inches.

Any computer techies out there who can guide me through this printing process?

What is very interesting is after I received my payment notice from Burda, I clicked on FAQ in the email and I was somewhere in Burda Style site that had questions and answers dealing with Mac computers - I think it was an error that I was lead to this area of the site because when I clicked on the FAQ link a few hours later, I was taken to the generic FAQ page on its site.

I have viewed the Forum on this site to see if the questions I saw were entered in this site but no such luck nor can I find any questions on the Forum dealing with this print issue.

Thanks for your help.

I haven't used Burda, but could it be including a seam allowance?

It's supposed to print correctly when it's on 100%/unscaled, so it's odd that you are getting something too big on that setting. From which application are you printing - Preview, through Safari or another browser? It shouldn't make a difference, but your printer drivers might be a little off with some apps. I would try it at unscaled/100% in Preview directly, and if that doesn't work, maybe download a copy of Acrobat Reader if you don't have one installed (Adobe has the reader software available for free), and see if that makes any difference for you.

Laura,

I was entering the site through Goggle and the pattern I believe is printing through Google's site although it did say Preview at the top.

I decided to enter the site through Safari and it prints at 3 15/16.

This is getting depressing. Going to try to download Acrobat Reader through my Google site.

Thanks.

Hmm. Hard to diagnose. Every printer seems to have its own set of special features-- and I don't have a HP

Try clicking "Show Details", if necessary. Then click on the popup Menu immediately below the Orientation buttons.Select "Paper Handling"-- there should be a bunch of options there about "scaling" the image to paper size. Make sure that those are turned off.

3 and 15/16 is exactly what it should be.
It is 10 cm which is a tiny bit less than 4 inches. I don't know why they say it is 4.

bluet,

I decided to use my husband's Mac - same model as mine - but he has a newer printer. The rows lined up better but when I tried to put the columns of rows together the marks did not line up. If I lined up the top, then the lines for the hem did not match.

Came back to my computer, read your remark and went back through Safari. Printed the square and checked it against the 10 cm mark - PERFECT MATCH! I didn't check the first Safari block to against the 10 cm. Well, duh!

Thanks so much. Hopefully, all the marks will match this time. Another hour or so of cutting and taping will tell me if the Safari print off worked.
