BurdaStyle pattern instructions Help!

Here's a scan of the instructions. My problem starts when it says: "To trace piece 1, fold the tissue paper and lay the fold edge on the marked "fabric fold" at top of vent. The half of the pattern piece which lies on top is the centre front, the half which lies below is the facing. Unfold the pattern piece. Trim away upper end of centre front along yoke attachment line." First, I don't see a fabric fold anyway, but I especially don't see a vent! What vent?! I think the yoke is the triangular shaped doohickies on the shoulders, which I'd be just as happy to leave out. Am I right? But I don't see a yoke attachment line, either. Please help!

Hi Courtney, I’ll try and translate… The yoke pieces are 9 and 10, the shoulder details, so they want you to cut the corresponding corners off the pattern for the main fabric and reattach them for the lining. The fold line is the solid line to the side of the edge of the front, it is possibly clearer to see the intent on the pattern piece pics in the instructions than on the piece itself. It is just below the marking for seam attachment point 16. From the instructions, I’m thinking that the ‘facing’ piece needs to be cut off and sewed on separately on the other side of the zip, and also attached to the lining rather than folded under like you would with a fabric piece. Maybe you could cut out a pattern piece in some scrap fabric and play with it to see how it goes together before committing to cutting the leather/good fabric. Vent? Odd, but OK. So, the long skinny bit of leather gets cut off? (Not that I'm making it in leather, but for the sake of interpretation. I'm totally working this out in muslin first! ;) Here are photos of the relevant pattern bits, as well: bottom of 1 upper right of piece 1 Also, you can see the image of a zipper pull in the middle there, and I have no idea why, or even if it is associated with this pattern. upper left, perhaps where yoke should be attached

I have no idea about the vent either. I think what they want you to do is to trace it off as one sheet, both the front and the facing, so that you can lay just one sheet out on your leather for easier cutting. Fold your tracing paper in half, trace, unfold, cut off the yoke areas, lay on leather and cut. Maybe???? I think this is going to be an awesome jacket, by the way!

The directions say it's the symbol for seam and top stitching. You can see the top stitching in the line drawing. I don't know why they didn't run the line the whole way down the front. Although, I can't see in the instructions where they tell you to stitch it the whole way down...they only say as marked. You'd sew the zip onto the facing size, top stitch the 4 inches or so on the front. But...from the pic on page 54, it's clear the stitching runs the whole way down. If you did stitch it the whole way down, I think you'd have to do it before the pocket pieces were sewn on or you could be careful to avoid them. This is a good puzzle.

Thank you so much for the help. I'm thinking that you cut off the fold and use it as a sort of a flap to cover the zipper. Then you top stitch it down flat. Perhaps.
