I know there are quite a few books with patterns for little kids. But I was wondering if there are any for bigger girls. I am talking about the 9 year old girl. She's also a tall girl. I do like O&S patterns, but the book that Liesl out is for smaller kids.

I do like Simplicity patterns but want to expand my horizons, so to speak.

My dd is a girly girl. So, I would love books/patterns for cute dresses. But that aren't "babyish".

Thanks!

There's a modkid patterns book that came out recently, I looked at it at the library. It looked very cute and was mostly knits, from what I recall. The size range definitely included your daughter's age.

Are you familiar with Ottobre Design? It's a pattern magazine for kids'clothes from infant to preteen. They are the cutest patterns, and you can buy single issues as well as back issues. Sorry I can't post a link, but you can look at the designs in each issue at ottobre design.com.

Edit typo.

I second the recommendation for Ottobre! Cute styles and there are usually a couple options for customization included (e.g. ruffles!). Just make sure you measure your daughter carefully, as their sizing is different. You wouldn't need to subscribe to the magazine, you could just pick up a few issues that interested you (The Wooly Thread, Pink Chalk Fabrics, Banberry Place all have them). If you chose carefully, 3-4 magazines would be enough for a year's wardrobe.
Farbenmix & studioTantrum have that boutique-y girly feel too them too, but some of the styles are a bit out there for day to day clothes.
Personally, I have not had much luck with pattern books in general, especially for kid's clothes. It seems like the focus is generally on slick photos to market the designer's fabric collection, and little thought is given to getting pattern sizing or instructions correct.

I "third" Ottobre. It's got some cute, comfortable, age-appropriate stuff in it, at a variety of difficulty levels. Here are line drawings of the latest issue.

You might want to leaf through some of the Burdas at Joann's. There are some unusual European styles, like this one, in the age range you're interested in. Also, Burda is multi-sized, so if your girl likes a particular style very much, there's a reasonable chance the next size up will be in the envelope, too.

This is a great book and it includes the patterns. It's written by the designer at Farbenmix, which are Germans kids patterns. I bought my copy at Joanns.Sewing Clothes Kids Love

I have a 10 year old and like Ottobre Design, Kwik Sew (older patterns), and Burda envelope patterns. Also consider Jalie, as the sizes for each patten range from toddler to adult sizes. I have a couple Japanese pattern books for older girls too.

I can't believe YoungImage or Lekala aren't mentioned yet! You Image go up to teen sizes, and Lekala print off to whatever measurements you enter in.

Burda magazine hardly ever print kids patterns above size/height 128cm these day (like once every 2-3 years), which is a real shame. I have Burdas from the 80s that actually feature a whole teen section each issue!

Squirrellypoo, I have never heard of these pattern companies before!! Wow! I already found a cute skirt that would look adorable on my dd. Awesome!
