Date: 10/11/12 2:09 PM Okay, so, here are the instructions for this pattern:
Simplicity 2573 - click "instructions" tab for PDF
I am unclear about what to do on page 4/4, on the right hand side, instructions for Neckline A, step 12. I can follow the instructions up until step 12 where is says:
Quote: To form casing, press ruffle seam down, pressing under 1/4"
(6mm) on raw edge. Stitch close to pressed edge through all
thicknesses, leaving an opening to insert elastic.
Now, I'm not totally sure what that means. Does that mean that the seam, where the strap that becomes the ruffle is sewn to the body part of the dress, gets folded down to make the casing?
I'm not totally sure and I can't picture what they're instructing me to do.------ Evelyn: Pfaff Creative Performance

Date: 10/11/12 2:30 PM You just need to press the whole seam down, finish the edge, and then stitch close to the finished edge, (parallel to the seam) leaving an opening to thread your elastic through. The illustration looks pretty spot on to me. :)
Not sure if that helps or not...pretty close wording to what's already there!
ETA: "Now, I'm not totally sure what that means. Does that mean that the seam, where the strap that becomes the ruffle is sewn to the body part of the dress, gets folded down to make the casing? It's easy to over think things sometimes when you haven't done them before...I've done it quite a few times with both sewing and knitting. -- Edited on 10/11/12 5:35 PM -- ------ Sewing, Knitting, Living: http://www.sometimessewist.wordpress.com |

Date: 10/11/12 11:31 PM Yup. I think that's what I was doing here also.
Came back to report that yes, indeed, your help is what the instructions were saying. I have successfully put the elastic in. Yay! ------ Evelyn: Pfaff Creative Performance
