Have you seen This gorgeous sweater coat? I just love it! I copied then dress already, but now I need a knee length brown cardi to wear with it. However, knitting this would take a couple of years and I can't wait that long! I'm thinking I could get the same effect with a drapy woven wool or maybe a wool jersey or something? I'm not horribly experienced with knits, but I would try it for this. I've looked through the big 4, but I'm not sure which one might work. Buttermilk, maccalls, and vogue are all on sale this weekend at Joann, so those would be preferable.

Haha, buttermilk! iPad autocorrect fail!

What about using a cardigan pattern and just extending it to the length you want. I have recently made New Look 6735 Sweater.

This is a great idea! I haven't had a "sweater coat" in forever. I might just join you in making one. :)

I am going to use a Silhouette pattern 311 and add some length. Not sure I will add the dart. Not sure I would like a dart in a sweater coat.

Loes Hinse has a long sweater coat pattern.

I have a piece of wool poly fleece. Butterick 5828 or McCalls 6445 both look like they might work for a light jacket. The first one might work for a stable knit type fabric.

That Loes Hinse pattern looks great.
I have a few suggestions...some would need tweaking but easily doable...B5528, M6247, M6656, M5932.
If you haven't worked with knits much you might want to stick with fabric that has a little more structure rather than a jersey-weight.
