I'm talking about walking shoes, worn almost everyday. How long would you expect them to last for?

For me, it's not very long. If I wear shoes every day, they will last less than a month. I have to have several pairs to switch off. Then they will last maybe nine months to a year. But then I am hard on shoes.

I think it depends on how much you spend on the shoes a/k/a the price point and quality. Also factor in are these dressy walking shoes or athletic ones, and the number of miles walked every day.

When I walk 3 - 4 miles per day, 4-5 times a week, in athletic running shoes (best for walking), after six months the compression is shot. I get pain up and down the front of my shin. That's when I know it's time for new shoes.

I hope this helps.

OK, I'm trying to find out what a reasonable length of time to expect shoes to last for .

I'm talking about leather upper, rubber soled shoes, probably lace up and designed to be comfortable. I'm not talking about exercise as such, I wear running shoes for that, but everyday shoes for wearing with jeans or trousers.

I wear sandals all summer. I have two pair that are 3 and 4 years old. I wear them daily from April through Oct. They are Ecco brand and I will be wearing them for a couple more summers.

For the rest of the year my oldest pair of shoes is about 8 years old. They are Merrill and are worn about 70% of the time. I have some other shoes I alternate with that are not as old.

The Merrill's are just about done. The tops still look great, but the sole has lost much of the cushioning. I have replaced the insole, but the out sole is wearing thin too.

The other brands I get lots of wear out of are Clarks, Rieker, and Josef Siebel. They are not inexpensive shoes, but when I pay $100-150.00 for a pair of shoes I am wearing them for years.

I am going into my third winter for my leather rain boots by Ecco. They are super comfortable, look great and do not look like rain boots. I walk to work and live in the rain forest. Water proof boots are important.

If shoes were only lasting a few months I would be taking them back. My daughter bought (with her own money) some shoes at Walmart, they were absolute junk and when they fell apart we discovered they were make in part with paper.

That seems really fast . My shoes usually last two years! I'm generally not hard on shoes, but I'm wondering if 2 years is normal, or am I expecting too much from them? These shoes cost approx $219 (converted from euros) which is expensive for me.

I expect sandals to last about 10 years, because I only get to wear them for about the equivalent of a month each summer !!

Ecco are a good brand, but too narrow for my feet, as are Clarks. I haven't tried the others.

Shoes can wear out on the inside more so than the outside.

All depends on the individual as to how long their shoes will last.

Proper fit, quality of the shoes, how often the shoes are worn, how long the shoes are worn (all day/few hours), body weight, with or without socks and if the shoes are worn for yard work or in wet weather.

Proper care (cleaning/drying when wet) of the shoes can lengthen their life.

You also have to be aware of the stealing, chewing, burying them in the flower bed dog factor!

What I'm asking is, if they are taken care of reasonably, worn most of the day (say, 8 to 10) with socks, not for yard work, what would you expect?

Please tell me these shoes are not white and you are not wearing them with mom jeans......

Expect several years longevity. Can't break it down to the hour and minute it goes back to the quality of the product.
