Today I went to a local Church rummage Sale, and found for $10 a Husquvarna 2000/Viking 6430. I've had just basic Singers in my past, and am THRILLED with my find (as well as nervous). I also recently acquired an older Kenmore Model 385. (which i had been thrilled about spending $50 on). Both machines are in amazingly MINT condition, cases and all, have the original owners' manuals and look like they could have come off the assembly line yesterday. I've only ever done very basic sewing, so I'm really looking forward to learning the full range of what these machines are capable of!

Congratulations on your find! I know nothing about this machine but hope you'll have fun sewing on it!

Wow great find! I would have picked that one up even being in the position of not needing a machine right now. Congrats!

I had a red 6460 and it was one of my favorite machines. There's a Yahoo Group called pre 1980 Viking sewing machines run by a retired Viking mechanic. YOu might want to join, they have lots of helpful hints.

My grandmother taught me to sew when I was 10, and I've been sewing ever since.

I have a Viking 2000 and really like it. I did have to replace a broken camstack gear which is a common problem with this era of Vikings. It sews very smoothly and does some nice utility stitches such as darning and stretch. With cams you can do some decorative stitches. Good all around machine and a beauty as well. Good find, enjoy!

As Diane S said, be sure to join the Viking group - vikingsewingmachinespre1980@yahoogroups.com - it's an invaluable resource. Congrats on your find!

I did join the yahoo group. I'm still trying to un-reverse (my new word of the day) her, but if I fail I found a local (6 miles from my house) repairman in the event I can't manage to move the stuck bit 6782 times successfully who works only with older sewing machines, so hopefully one way or another by the end of the week, I'll have her up and sewing.

I too have a viking huskvana 2000, it also is stuck in reverse !!
My Service engineer told me that it was uneconomic to repair it!!!!!!!!!!!! To my horror!

It was the very first thing that I saved up really hard for - 40 years ago!! I have won many competions with its sewing and it doesn't owe me a thing. I will be most interested to know how you get on.

I am near Plymouth, Devon, England UK
