Harem Pants Does anybody wear these?

They were actually kind of exaggerated harem pants, really awful MC Hammer britches. Is it just me or does anyone else think showing harem pants construction was a waste of good air time? Wish they would have Gretchen Hirsch on more often, I just love her.

I'm not a fan of MC Hammer pants per se, but I do like a full legged flowy pant for Spring/Summer and that style of pant comes and goes out of fashion it seems. A little too costume-y, I guess. But I did take Gretchen's bombshell dress class on craftsy.com and it's a fun, very informative class. I just bought the suit jacket class but I haven't started it, yet. That jacket really isn't my style, I have another suit pattern I'm going to use, but that class is worth it just to learn the tailoring techniques and the bound buttonholes. And again, I just love Gretchen. She has a fun, upbeat personality and seems very at home in front of the camera.

Date: 10/13/12 5:20 PM The first and third pic Rivergum I can see working mainly because the top flows really well with the pants. The second I'm not so sure about. There are a few more examples of these lower crotch style of pant on pinterest. Some I really like, others not so much. I think it depends on how low and how much drape. Some are just slightly lower and those look pretty good to my eye. It's a nice anti-skinny jean balance. I think when they are super low and full with a tight tight ankle, it gets tricky. It can definitely have a clownish diaper effect as per Coconut, OR it can look l like a maxi skirt if its drapey enough and the tight ankle isn't so prominent. We have to respect culture also. In some cultures this style of pant or other dropped crotch styles are very every day. Edit: Lol Coconuts- yes the diaper effect is to be avoided at all costs. Here's Urbanoutfitters version: Urban Harem Pant and here's a lux version- the crotch looks standard, but the leg is full and the ankle tied. Pant -- Edited on 10/13/12 5:59 PM --

Date: 10/13/12 5:44 PM Again with the 80's trend- they are very much making an appearance on the runway and on entertainers (trend setters). There's a pin with Rhianna, Kim Kardashian, and a host of other celebs with them on. In some cultures, they never went out of style to begin with. Fashion is big recycle machine. Style on the other hand is very individual and subjective. Never fear harem pant detractors, they will be gone soon and hopefully they will take the leggings as pants phenomenon with them. I would never wear these to bed. My SO would be horrified! So not a way to start off a romantic evening. -- Edited on 10/13/12 5:46 PM --

Date: 10/13/12 6:00 PM OK, seems I need to come clean: I really like harem pants, or sarouel as they are known in Europe. Somehow the US has never taken to them, but in Europe they have been popular for a number of years. The site my pics were taken from is French. The reason I like them is that I am a pear and they hide a lot, plus they are undeniably comfortable. I have been wearing capris in summer, but i can no longer ignore the fact that they don't do a lot for me. So i am going to give the tunic and sarouel look a try.The right styling and proportions are important though. ------ Taking in is happier than letting out. Sydney, Australia
