I've searched the message boards and googled a bit and haven't come up with anything. Some of the free manual sites looked a bit dodgy and I hesitated to click on them. I would like to at least take out their bobbin assembly area (the race?) to clean and oil and it all looks pretty foreign to me so I hesitate to try it without guidance.

It would probably be worth it to join the Elna Heirloom group on Yahoo... someone there probably has a PDF.

I never disassembled the bobbin case area... I just brushed around it to remove lint cooties. If pulling it apart had been part of the regular maintenance, I'm sure I woulda been doin' it.

The Elna forum may be your best bet for additional information.

There are manuals on CD for sale at eBay, but the users manual may not go into the details for removing the bobbin case and race for this particular (drop-in) bobbin machine.

If this area requires cleaning and lubricating by the user, then it should be in the user's manual.

The regular maintenance was just to oil the behooobies out of it. LOL

All of the locations to oil are marked with a red dot of paint on mine (came that way).

I'm not looking at my machine right now... she's taking a long snooze in her case these days.... but IIRC, there are about 3 spots on the top of the machine, two on the free arm, and another 2-3 in the bobbin area to oil.

The bobbin case doesn't come apart (or come out) like what you're all thinking of in the new machines. There was no buying a second case for low tension, etc. There are markings to change the bobbin tension (imagine that! and we did it all the time without screwing the machine up!!!).
