Subject: Weird Serger problem on fleece Date: 10/17/12 0:09 AM

My darling fiancee (the talented sewer in our household) is helping me sew some diapers, by showing me how to use his serger. We're hitting a problem he hasn't seen before ...

I'm serging a soaker that is a cotton blend fleece. There was no trouble on the part that was a layer of fleece plus a layer of flannel. Then we hit the fleece alone, and it keeps getting all screwed up, and has to be rethreaded. He took everything apart and cleaned it, and it worked well on a woven fabric (a lightweight gingham, just a few scraps) and then did its thing on the fleece again.

What he says is this: "The needle thread gets stuck on one of the knits and loops itself back around, so the needle thread becomes a loop and everything messes up from there." There is a distinctive click when this happens.

He speculated it has something to do with the knit ...

PFAFF Hobbylock, using 3 threads, if that helps.

Try changing the needles if he hasn't done that.
