It happens to all of us. Sometimes we do something with a good intention and it has the opposite effect. When I first thought of the Comment notification feature, it was a "Eureka" moment and without giving it another thought I started building it. I admit, I like to jump into projects when I get excited.
However, over the past few months we've received many e-mails from members who are confused why they are getting these PMs all of a sudden. Some even said that they don't post comments because of this feature! That was not our intention!
Now, since I spent time building this feature, we will keep it, for those who like to receive the notifications. So what has changed?
As of now, we've flipped to setting to "off" for everybody. If you'd like to receive notifications, simply go to either your Notifications Center or Edit your profile to turn it on.
I apologize if this feature has caused confusion.

You know how when you post a comment on someone's review and they post a comment on that review but you never hear of it? Well that changes today!
Starting today you will receive a Private message if someone else also comments on a review you left a comment on. I think this will be a great way to keep the conversation going on the lovely creations everybody has been posting on PR.
By default this setting is turned on for anybody who has allowed a Private message from anyone. If you'd rather not receive these PMs, simply turn it off in your profile in Account Settings section.

Date: 10/19/12 10:28 AM I like the new feature!! Especially when it comes to updates on machine reviews. I left an addendum to one of my previous machine reviews about issues I encountered and wondered if anyone would see it and find it helpful. Now maybe they well. ------ strikesmyfancy-2013.blogspot.com

Date: 10/19/12 10:50 AM Thats one of the reasons I added it. I feel so many times the conversation gets lost and now there is a way to follow it along. And the comment is included in your PM so you don't even have to go to the review if you don't want to. I wonder if I should show the name of the reviewer in the subject line so you'll know whose review got comments. ------ - Deepika

Date: 10/19/12 11:39 AM Getting updates on machine reviews was a great enhancement to an already wonderful resource. Sometimes I've read reveiws that are done soon after the machines arrival and later there are updates about issues. Instead of seaching back through pages and pages, I like that now the update will come to me. I also think that since these updates only come if you've commented on a review, this may encourage others to participate more. ------ strikesmyfancy-2013.blogspot.com

Date: 10/21/12 5:56 PM Nancy when you Edit your Profile there is a section called account settings. Click on No next to "Send me notification when others comments on reviews I commented on".
Hope this helps. ------ - Deepika

Date: 10/22/12 5:06 PM Someone out there who is more knowledgeable than me about fabrics--HELP! Can you tell me the difference between crepe de chine and charmeuse and is there a difference between silk charmeuse and just plain charmeuse? Dumb, I know but I would like to know. TIA!! |

Date: 10/22/12 5:56 PM That specific sentence is not there. I only see a group of notifications which I don't want to turn off. Just this new one which I find highly annoying. If I've commented on several reviews it's unclear what the comments are for. ------ www.nancyksews.blogspot.com |
