Hello:
Does anyone have any preferences for serger thread for doing rolled hems? I've tried wooly nylon, but would prefer something else with a little more "body" as I am serging chiffon.

Thanks!

I have done rolled edges on chiffon for the last 20 years because I hand paint silk and make it into scarves and wraps and sell them. I have probably made more than a thousand or two pieces over the years.. I use regular serger thread and this makes a beautiful hem and does not disturb the drape. If your machine has 2 thread capacity, that is even better because it does not introduce as much thread into the hem. If you want the hem stiff you may have to serge over fishline. That makes a nice hem. I'm sure you can find tutorials on you tube for that. Good luck!

Maxi Lock Stretch can be substituted for Wooly Nylon, although probably not ideal for chiffon.

Superior Thread has a new thread called Omni. I ordered some to try it out and I love it for my serger. It might be worth a look.

I like using a 40 weight polyester embroidery thread for a decorative look.

For me, it depends on color needs and fabric weight. I rarely use wooly nylon for rolled hems, but I might if I was using a knit.

I have used Isacord brand (made by Mettler) poly mach. embr. thread for rolled hems and it matched the fabric perfectly in sheen.

I once did a silk chiffon rolled hem and got a perfect color match with Mettler 60/2 wt. 100% cotton mach. embr. thread. It was wonderful, no fuzzy look.
