Interface quilting cotton for KwikSew 3531 jacket Is this a good idea?

Unfortunately, it's a 100% quilting cotton, and the pattern calls for a medium-weight fabric. I wondered if I could interface it with a light or medium-weight fusible, or if it would be better to interline it with a solid lining fabric. Previous reviewers of the pattern used home dec fabric, lightweight wool, and other appropriate fabrics. I've also considered making this in a toile home dec fabric, but would still like advice about beefing up the quilting cotton. Thanks!

She noted that quilting cottons had such wonderful prints, and fusing could give you just the right drape. Date: 10/19/12 7:42 AM Pam Erny at fashionsewingsupply.com has AMAZING interfacing that comes in all sorts of weights and it would be a very good choice for fusible interlining on the cotton for your jacket. If you ask for her input she'll give you great advice of which one will give you the desired weight and drape. Also, be SURE to preshrink the quilting cotton before fusing or sewing. I've noticed that quilting cottons are shrinking more than ever these last few years. Make sure to use a mild soap like Orvis paste or Woolite and cold water to preserve the colors and no fabric softeners so you get a nice fuse. Even if you never machine dry it again, do put it in the dryer on low this one time. You'll notice that once it comes out of the dryer it will most likely feel a little heftier due to the shrinkage and if you measured your yardage before washing and after you'll be surprised.
